Title: New Version Rumors
Post by: DaFerret on July 19, 2009, 04:14:25 AM
Hello, aces of the the internet. I have been reading the forums for awhile but never had enough guts to post. with the upcoming hype about the new version and the new vehicles like the Brewster, cant wait btw. I have a outstanding personal interest that I cant keep to myself, and yes I know we have gone over the submarine issue in the past but I have heard rumors surfacing for lack of a better word about our new water which brings up our age old question, submarines. Submarine games are one of the biggest naval warfare games sold today, with four versions of one in particular that employs the latest software code, 3d graphics, and add-on packages. Now to the point, with the new version of aces high I'm hearing subs will work on the waypoint command principal the current CV's work on now. The depth charges will work similar to the 5 inch guns found on the warships (proximity detonation you just have to come close) the depth charges will be mounted on destroyers and tbm's at first to get our community proficient in hunting and destroying our new toy. Submarines periscopes will trigger a DAR bar and flash enemy CV's/ports/airbases the German typed IX fast attack u-boats for example will have a 37mm or 20mm (both were used) antiaircraft battery and a 4.1 inch gun I hope htc will bend corners and go ahead with the five inch gun on the deck (thus making it a threat to coastal towns and ports) with 24 torpedoes with five tubes, four foreward and one aft reloaded over time. I am very excited to hear this news as this nearly completes the naval warfare scenario and will entice a new crowd players that have the passion to command of one of the deadliest weapons of war ever created. Indeed one of our very own htc staff members has had family that served on subs so I think we should give him the respect and opportunity to recreate a part of his own history on The "Internets Premiere WW2 Combat Experience!"

  I am a hardcore submarine simulation fan.  I been commanding computer subs since 1985 "Silent Service" on the commodore 64.  Allthough I would find the addition of submarines a nice feature to this game, the game is not very well suited to submarining.  First off there is very little naval traffic to engage.  Carrier groups and the occasional tug boat and barge.  That  is all the merchant marine traffic there is to encounter.  So being a sub skipper would be pretty dull.  Also the Carrier groups are so fast that you would have a very difficult time being position for a successful attack set up.  Also the submarine we could possibly get would be extremely simplified, much as our tanks currently are.  The game would also have to add sometype of anti-sub forces....Destroyers equiped with sonar ....planes with depth charges etc etc.....I don't really see sonar happening because you would have to have your own destroyer to command.  Auto depth chargeing destroyers would be the only option.  Its just too many things for HTC to add.

  If you want to enjoy submarining I recommend buying Silent Hunter "wolves of the pacific...play that ...its 1000 times more fun then any submarine we could even hope for in this game.

Hitech himself said he would like to add submarines at some point. So saying its not going to happen is not entirely accurate.

I believe HTC has expressed positive interest in this subject.  Maybe in the future, but certainly not in this update.

Im wondering if some of you evan took the time to read my post about the rumors going around they answerd all your questions and more. Fist off submarines of ww2 employed radar and sonar. Were obviously not going to use sonar only radar will stand, your submerged time will be the same as the fuel in aircraft you only have limited time before the carrire group/hunting TBM will catch you on the surface. The depth charging will be a hit and miss sience as the five inch guns on the decks of the destroyers are the real destruction will come from the Shore Battery's and Heavy guns of the surface ships. Not trying to bust your....
but yes sir I do own SH3 and 4 with wolves expansion pack, I tried refraning from using there names not to take away from aces naval market, none come close to the online mulitiplayer combat AH2 offers and were talking mass mulitiplayer (titanic tuesdays) or yes I would rather play a superior in every way sub sim, thats not the point. Its to see what the minds of aces bring to the table and how they operate the submarine. Example a t34 can be used as one of the most effective shore batterys around. The submarine will add tactics never before seen in ANY wartime simulation.

See Rule #4

Dude, you've made 4 post, and none of them have made much sense, on top of that, you start trash talking Skuzzy. The poor guy is doing 5 jobs and doing them all rather well. I'm sure baby sitting the BBS is not one of his favorites.

As for Subs, I don't know who you have been listening to ( post a few sources) but there hasn't been much talk about subs other than people asking for them in the wish list. HT (owner and creator of the game) has stated that some day he'd like to add them, but its not high on his list.

If we get subs then I'm guessing they will be used for hit and run raids on ports as it is unlikely you will be aimed at a cv correctly to fire off a torp or 3.

Would love to see subs int he game, but with the water being 0 altitude, I'd imaging that you'd have to get a new base line or open up negitive numbers. Which usually dont work very well in the computer world. I could be wrong though. If they were inplemented though, Id love to use it for base defense.  :D

For the first time in a long time I got excited about the thought of subs in the game. While you may not have properly parsed your sentences, at least you used creative writing. :aok

Actually, negative numbers are used quite often when programing games, especially in FLASH. It's usually used for movemement, for example KEY.isDOWN(left)
{
    move = -move.x;
}
That should be self explanitory, but just in case... If the left arrow key is down, then you move along the X axis negative (left) amounts. You could also use rotation but then that opens up for some more complex stuff with radians and all that fun jazz... stupid car racing games, take forever to do just cause of how many lines of code there are, for not that much reward. But then again, that's programing. :D

The problem would be implementing it...
