Title: Turn off join messages
Post by: Rich46yo on July 19, 2009, 10:55:48 PM
Please give us this option to turn them off. They are just a kiddie harassment tool. That and a lot of noobs jusy dont know any better. Either way we dont need them and they interfere. Ive probably had 1/2 dozen the last 2 days, "gee i wonder why"? :huh

If you want somebody on your plane we have type commands we can use.

Hmmm,

.showjoin 0

I do it every time I log in if I don't see the message that join requests will be in the text buffer.  Takes 2 seconds and then I can ignore all night.  What's the big deal?

Theres no "big deal". Are you saying we already have that option? To turn them off? I have no problems taking a noob up, I just use the cursor as a sight and it causes a problem to have to answer a join message when fighting.

Yes, the .showjoin 0 puts the request in the text buffer as opposed to the middle of your screen blocking out what's happening in front of you.

Geez I never knew that. Thanks to Dot and Newman.

Just seemed with summer in, no school, theres an awful lot of them. As long as they asked first in text I have no problem with it. :salute

Always accept when you are in a fighter.   :D

I was also asking today, if I'm in a gv and accept then go afk for 3 or 4 hours, can they get out without ending the game?

Wait, if you accept a gunner when GVing they can't get out?

It'd be nice if the game saved your preference though to receive the join message in the text buffer...

No sense in having to type .showjoin 0 every single time you log on or change arenas...
But that's the way it is, better than nothing.

Um it already does. Everytime I log in the first thing that shows up in the buffer is:

Host: Join requests will display in your message bar.

Game remembers preference, unless the server gets rebooted or patched. Thats the only time I have to mess with it.

I don't know, but I doubt it would be so as you can .ef a moving vehicle.

The "memory" of your showjoin preference resets when you jump arenas.  If I'm in EW with it set for text buffer, then go to SEA or MW for instance, it's a crap-shoot whether I have to retype it.  I haven't paid much attention to when it resets (is it the server or the arena that changes the setting), but if I don't see the message when I log into an arena I have to change the setting.

I have mine set tot he text buffer as well, but I would like to see the join feature by INVITE only.  The person who is upping the plane or GV should have the option of asking if someone wants to join him, but not the other way around.

If someone wants to join, they should just ask.  If we want them in our plane, we will then invite them.  Seems much more civil that being bombarded with join requests from someone we have never even spoken with.

Or, if not that... then an option to DISABLE join requests. The requester would get a message saying "AKP is not accepting Join requests at this time"... or something like that.

Dont get me wrong.... I dont mind taking people up as gunners if 1) I know them and 2) they are polite about it...  but some people are just rude.

I just wish squad invites would be also being redirected to text buffer with .showjoin 0

Well its all made worse when you use your cursor for something, have it locked, and then have to unlock it to X out the join window in the middle of the screen. Its bad enough when it happens when your fighting. But now I know this command. Still, pity there aint a permanent setting for it.

While were at it pity there aint a permanent squelch list. Mine would be small but theres a few I'd rather never hear again.

Or at least for a few more years.
