Hopefully I'll get a back pay check this summer. To go along with my kid liking, and needing, this system.
What screamers are out there for gaming? Say for just the tower and the guts since I have everything else.
Say $$ really not an object. No problemo spending a couple/3 grand.

You absolutely don't need to pay $3000.00 for a system.. That's insane and anyone paying that much for a system from Dell or HP/Compaq needs a lobotomy..
$1000.00 will get you a system so fast that it'll change your underwear for you while driving and you'll never even know..
If money is seriously no object, have TillDeath build something really nice for you.. Not to say he's super expensive or anything.. But you gotta pay for quality workmanship and
parts.. $3000.00 :rofl That's preposterous...
-
Get yourself an X58 Motherboard, PC Power & Cooling 860W Power Supply, Intel i7 975 quad-core processor, 6 gigabytes of DDR3 memory, an NVIDIA GTX295 video card, one-two 500GB SATA hard drives, and one-two SATA DVD/CD burner/reader.
Operating system is your decision. I would go with a 64-bit Operating System since you would have 6GB of RAM.
All of this can be found on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com).

He's giving you advice. His advice is to talk to TilDeath because he builds screamers for relatively low prices.
-
Yup! PM Tildeath and let him design/build a real screamer for you! :rock
-
Can you assemble an Erector Set, Lincoln Logs or Legos? If you answered yes then build it yourself. $1500 (or less) and you'll have all the system you can handle.

He's telling you the truth.
The work done is exceptional! :x
Worth every penny! :rock
You'll get more system for your money, and it will be setup properly BEFORE it is shipped to you! :rock

Already spoke to TilDeath, whom I already know. Thanks for the inputs. :salute
I actually wanted to know what the cutting edge componants were. A lot changes in a year.

Motherboard: X58.
Processor: Core i7 Processor.
RAM: DDR3.
Video Card: ATI 4830 / NVIDIA GTX295
Hard Drive: Depends on your needs and preference. Either a 10,000 RPM SATA drive, a 7,200 RPM SATA drive, or a Solid-State-Drive (SSD).
-
Here is what I am putting together this week. I saved a little on the video card because I don't need a GTX295 to run what I want to do and if I decide to upgrade soon EVGA does a trade up so I am ok. I also have a new 1TB SATA and SATA DVD burner here.

You can cut some costs and go with an e8400 or e8500 intel chip. Get a matching gigabyte board and a PC Power and Cooling Power supply, preferably 750 quad. Video cards, Don't know much there, I would like the 4800 series. I use the 2 of the 3800 series each in a different machine. As far as cases go, NZXT or Antec 900.
Let me put some costs together here:
E8500 = $190
ATI: MSI 4850 512 = $90 after rebate
Gigabyte 775 board = $100 after rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128359
Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227289 = $52 after rebate.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146047 NZXT Tempest Case $80 after rebate.
$512 not counting hard drive, OS, or taxes.
This is just an idea. Fairly reasonable in my opinion. Use it as a base and do some research on video cards, motherboards, and CPU's. You can actually go cheaper with e8400 or even an amd chip. On amd chip I would strongly recommend you do some detailed research so you don't get one with a bug. Of course you can go higher with the i7 core. Good luck! keep us posted.

Of course.. The fact that you threw the $3000.00 number out their is evident that you don't know the market.. That's not a shot at you.. Was just saying, no reason to spend 3 grand.. If you have it to throw away, that's great.. But you truly don't need to spend that..

Forgot the power supply. $110 so $622 total.

With 3 grand, you begin to start maxing out your computer parts. Sure you could get those Intel Extreme editions for $1000 for a CPU, but that's just flushing money away. You could start utilizing the extra money on multi-monitor setups. Desk, CH gear, speakers, networking backup etc. Man....what I'd do with $3000!

I believe I would PM TD for 3 grand and he would build you a dream machine from what I understand. Better yet give you some great advice on set up and maintenance.

Boy I can't add in squat when I am supposed to. I meant to put this in my reply here yesterday.

I'm sure Denholm meant ATI 4890 not 4830.
-
Your best would be to spend 1200 on the computer itself, 400 on a silent water-cooling setup, and 1400 on your monitors, peripherals, and software  . If you really want to spend three grand, that would give your the best bang per buck, imo.

Yes, I did. Thank you for the clarification.

Nah, his best bet would be to send me $3000 and I'll send him back a "screamer" and he'll be very happy and so will I.

What would your build sheet be for a 3k rig

I'd guess I'd be sending him something at least close to this. $2700-2800 after freight in and out and charging him for 5 hours of assembly and set-up (just a guess as I didn't check freight charges, rebates, etc.):
- Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
- EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard EVGA 01G-P3-1180-AR
- GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
- PC Power & Cooling T12W 1200W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply -
- Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920
- CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8D
- 2x Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
- Pioneer Black 8X Blu-Ray DVD Burner w/ Software SATA Model BDR-203BKS
- SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model SH-S222A
- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card
- Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 120mm SSO CPU Cooler
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders w/ Tech Guarantee
He could save several hundred dollars on the PSU but with a tri-SLI board I put this one in just in case he ever wanted to tri-SLI it.
Not sure about this CPU cooler but it looked to be the best of what I saw at newegg.
I picked Vista so he'd get the upgrade to Win7 when it's released.
Obviously there would be tweaks having not talked to him but if someone just out of the blue wanted to spend the money they could do a lot worse than this. If I were marketing this I'd probably swap in the 9xx PCP&C PSU and add a second GTX 285 so I could advertise it as SLI for about the same price.

Thats about a 2300 ~ 2350 build for the components listed with shipping and build fees
-
Maybe at some point we should have the Annual AH computer building contest? We can judge on neatness, 24/7 performance, temperature testing underload, and what ever we can think of. We can confine to dollar limits. Have your choice of cpu, case, cooling, vc, ps etc. Find adequate programs to test with, maybe cpu - z etc.
Would give us a chance to meet each other, build, exchange ideas and of course, at least for me learn something.
-
I say Llama will be competing with TilDeath for 1st whilst BladEagl and Masherbrum fight for third.
Any bets? :D

Yeah well it's $2450 with just inbound shipping if you're buying retail from newegg. No outbound shipping or build fees added to that number.

How about just building something that'll run the beta? :D

Most any system will run Beta (check AH min system requirements) Running Beta with all the bells and whistles turned on is a different story. Beta with all the bells and whistles on would be a box in the 800 to 1300 range depending on DDR2 or DDR3, How big a PSU and a GTX9800+ (mininum I would use)

Mine runs the Beta almost perfectly 605$ with everything on and x8 AA. That includes: Case, Motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM, PSU, DVD, Soundcard. Currently I use the 605$ pricetag due to upgrading my current Motherboard/CPU soon, but for the Beta the current parts run fine. I admit 800$ would run better (I get some slight FR drops), but for 600$ I am fine with it. :)
Can only imagine how nice your systems run if this cheaper box runs this well!

I'm crushed that my name isn't listed as contender. I mean just because my wire nest looks like floating pond algae shouldn't detour my chances.
