It seems that the only real differences between the D and B are:
6 50's vs 4
different canopies
D weighs more than B
D holds slightly more fuel?
The B should be just as good at hi alt as the D. It actually is listed as having a small top speed advantage at 30kft as well.
Any more knowledgeable 51 experts care to comment?

The B is supposed to be more manuverable than the D. The B has bad visibilty from cockpit but the D model has "uber" view.

The -B is much cooler looking, I know that. I will gravitate towards flying the B more but I do not notice any difference in performance from the -D other than firepower. I have great difficulty getting anything more than an 'assist' when shooting in a P-51B.

The B model is faster at very high altitude. The D model is faster on the deck. The B model also turns slightly better than the D model does. Other than that I've got no clue, I've only flown the D model, and even then not all that much.

Yep, they both fly a lot alike. Both have good 6 views, but the D is better. When you fly the B, ya just have to shoot more! :)
