It was interesting at the con to see the various ways that people used their joysticks, throttles and rudders...
Sancho flies with joystick on the table and his chin almost resting on top of his joystick and his nose about 6" from the screen.
Sac1 climbs into a simulator, closes the canopy and is gone to the rest of the world.
Anyway, watching folks got me thinking, how do most people physically set up their joystick, throttle and rudders?
So please respond to the following, Are your joystick and throttle:
1. Sitting on a desk?
2. Mounted on a desk?
3. Mounted to a desk with some kind of extension?
4. Mounted to a chair?
5. Mounted in a simulator?
6. Other?
Also, do you have a throttle and/or rudders?

My joystick and throttle are mounted to the armrests of an old office chair. Rudders are on the floor.

I have a Saitek X36/X35
The X36 (joystick) is sitting on my desk in front of and off to the right of my monitor. The X35 is sitting on a 4x12x1 piece of plywood that I screwed into my desk. It is held in place by rubber bands that periodically break after they rot for a few months.

3. Mounted to a desk with some kind of extension.
Separate throttle (TM Afterburner setup) cant use any pedals because minifridge is in way.

Stick on Desk
Throttle on Desk
Rudders on Floor
-
6. Other. JS sitting in my lap, throttle is on the stick, rudders on the floor, brain in little toe.
-
Stick (Saitek Cyborg Gold USB) sitting on the desk. No rudder pedals, use a twist.
-
LOL sob. Thats sweet.
Myself i go with a similar setup as funked's :)
Actually I have a cheap computer desk with one of those pullout drawers. When im flying, the keyboard is cordless and goes on the desk itself, the throttle on the left side of the drawer, stick on the right and mouse in the middle.
-
Saitek X36 usb HOTAS on the desk and Logitech Wingman usb Racing pedals on the floor as a rudder.
-
MS FFB1 on the desk.
-
Stick is where a joystick belongs, between my legs! ;)
So 6 or other I guess.

Sitting on the desk in front of me. no rudder pedals, no seperate throttle.
I've seen photos of some of you at the con with your joystick off to your right, throttle to the left, how you guys fly like that is beyond me.

Saitek Cyborg 3D gold USB.
I have a tray for my keyboard....I put the keyboard on top of my deask and fly with the stick on the keyboard tray.
-
Throttle on the desk. Pedals on the floor.
Stick is attached to the desk with an extension that puts it in my lap.
-
I'll post a pic when I get home of mine.

Saitek X36/X35 combo and CH Pro Pedals here. I fly with the Saitek combo sitting on the desk, the pedals underneath the desk (obviously) and my head up my arse! :D
Also, I have a wand mic, so it's in between the stick and throttle on the desk, and the keyboard is behind that.

x36 combo mounted to a fightersystems HOTASS
@ http://www.fightersystems. (http://www.fightersystems.)
TM elites on the floor.
-
I have a CH FighterStick, CH Pro Throttle, both of which I set on a piece of finished wood (about 2' x 1' x 3/4") in my lap, about in the same position it would be if you were really flying. My CH Pro Pedals are obviously sitting in the floor.
I find this relieves the strain in my right shoulder and arm from "reaching" for the stick if I sit on the desk.

I used to have a Saitek X36 USB setup on my desk with TM Elite pedals on the floor and now use a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 with my TM Elite rudders...the FF in AH is great :) I really could do with something like a HOTASS but they have closed the site down :(
Does anyone know if the guys at Fightersystems are goign back into business or have they shut up shop for good? I ask because I was looking at buying a HOTASS or at least the plans but was skint after my last upgrade, moved house which really made me skint and by the time I got the money together to get one they shut up shop. I wonder if they are not going to open back up wether they might release the plans into public domain for downloadfor DIY'ers.

Saitek X45 Combo with the Throttle on the left on my desk, the Stick on the right on the desk, and a set of CH Pro Pedals USB on the floor. I use a rubber welcome mat on the floor beneath the pedals to keep them from moving.

I was worse than 20/400 both eyes for most of my life and I got used to getting up close to my screen, books, etc. Ever since I got LASIK surgery and I'm 20/20 now, I still find myself getting up close to the screen. Years of habit there. :)
I use the Cyborg 3d Gold USB on my desk. It's in left handed mode and I've got my right hand on the keypad for views. Hat on the stick is for trim. I use CH pro pedals plugged into an old unused Wingman joystick since Win2k can't use the pedals without joystick. Win98 can with Bob Church's drivers.

CH-Stick on desk to my right.
CH-Throttle on desk to my left.
CH-Rudders on the floor.
Note: I'm Lefthanded :D
-
MS Precision Pro, mounted center of desk with the keyboard off to the left slanted at 45degress to clear for the stick.
I agree with Hblair, I just dont understand how you can fly without the stick being dead center in front of you.
-
CH F-16 Fighterstick (New pots, Yea!) CH pro Throttle, both attached to a pullout tray mounted beneath my computer desk pullout tray, which hold key board and saitek P8000. CH Pro peddles down where the dust bunnies grow. And most important of all, My hundred year old rocking chair (only pitch, no roll)
-
HBlair has a hoopty twisty stick?! Sissy.
Saitek X36 usb, Throttle aviation industrial velcro'd down left of monitor, Stick velcro'd right of the monitor. MANly CH Pro Pedals wedged on the floor because the Nascar4 TM pedal's block it nicley.(switch when changing games) (Hoopty Saitek rudder throttle rocker programmed via RangerBob to Flaps)
Regardless, all my hat switches are toast, ordering the X45 when it finally isnt sold out, because TM is waiting for X-mas to release its steal monster Digital.
"The Chair" is the toejam.

Well reading about someone using racing pedals for rudder pedals gave me an idea-
Now I have X36 on my desk in front of and to the right of me. X35 on the aforementioned plywood. And now I have a Microsoft Force Feedback steering wheel hooked up that came with racing pedals and am using the racing pedals as rudder pedals.
If only I had known this a year ago!!!
