Once upon an early morning...... One eye pealed open the other starting, coffee brewed hot & fresh. As i make my way to my chair i sit my glorious cup of Jo on my tower. Getting seated i swing my legs past & nudge the corner of the tower & watch in horror as the out of reach cup starts to tip & fall from tower. My tower (side panel removed in order to run extra fan on it) lay helpless & exposed to the upcoming splash back.
SPPPPPLLLLAAAAAASHHHHHHH DOWWWWWNNNNN!
IT couldn't of been a more perfect splash back, coating mother board, vid card & other components. The popping, sizzling, arks & fireworks told me it wasn't looking good. It wasn't, my system is fried :cry
So ladies & gents i guess i am grounded for now. Being i am laid off still & funds bleak it may be a while before i can return.
Happy flying, hope to return as soon as possible.

That's bad luck! Good luck repairing/buying a new one!
However, you can't say the coffee didn't wake you up :)
-
Wow - tough thing to have to watch happen - like it was in slow motion I bet. Best of luck replacing funds to repair it.
ALL the more reason to ONLY drink cognac when flying - I'm SO paranoid about not wasting a single drop of this precious fluid there is never any chance of it ever spilling.
cheers eh!

Arrrrrgh! :( Good luck getting it worked out.
-
Yikes! That is bad luck and especially while your unemployed and have a little extra time to play but I'll bet you never put another drink on top of your computer.
-
Well I came home from work and sat down to play for a few.....Only to notice my "Fatality1" keyboard was not working. Upon some investigation i noticed the residue of what looked like soda pop on the underside. Yes it was full of soda. One quick question and i knew by the look on my daughters face who had done it.
-
This sounds obvious dude your asking for trouble putting coffee on a pc :lol
I'm one to talk though I've spilled tea on the same keyboard about 3 times and had to dismantle it and clean it all, I'm no stranger to sticky keys lol it sucks :D If my tower wasn't under the desk I'd probably be writing this thread a few times :lol

Not coffee, but 4,5dl glass of dry whitewine(about pint,if i have figured right :D). Best part of incident, it was 1st one at that evening and full when it all filled my laptop :huh
After 3 days not touching and trying to dry poor machine i pushed "on" button and the thing worked as well as before accident :rock. I still have same laptop to play AH..
Thx god for my good taste; wine must be DRY :devil

That is a tragedy....after 2 days I start to get "Itchy Trigger Finger Syndrome". Hope u can work it out. :salute

Would of thought moments like that you'd blame the lizard and claim on insurance as "damaged caused by a wild animal"...
Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck mate, hope all turns around for you very soon and to see you back up in that 110. At the moment I'll just make the most of any 110s I come across knowing your not behind the controls.. :D
:salute

I have a BFG 8600 GT OC I would let you borrow or even donate. If you get the rest up and running let me know if you need a card. Plays on med-high settings in AH2 and hardly drops below 45 fps.
Edit: Its a PCIe card btw

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to use the built in cup holder so this won't happen.

Its just not AH without Dast. There's a graphics card up for grabs, does anyone else live close enough to him to donate any spare gear to get him going again if they have spares? A good old fashioned whip around.

I fried a joystick one time by knocking a glass of lemonade into it,
Stuck it down on AFK climb and heard bullets spraying went to grab throttle with left hand and the joystick went fizz bang SMOKE!
Sent it back to saitek and said it "OVERHEATED" got a brand new stick but felt really stupid :o. anyhow it was a stupid place to stick the throttle on the cyborg evo.
See it this way dast you wont do that again in a hurry.

I have an old Socket 939 Gigabyte GA-K8N (PCI-e & SLi) with an AMD 3500+ and Cooler Master heat sink already attached. It has 2 GB of PC-800 DDR2 on it too. It is sitting idle in my basement.
EDIT: I also have a Samsung with an 8MB cache, 52x CD Burner/DVD player.

Waiting for this to happen to me one day, I set my drinks at the edge of my desk, what hovers just below you ask? A 200mm fan opening in the top of my case, it's a recipe for disaster. Sorry to hear for your loss though, if your like me mornings suck as it is.

claim on home insurance?

claim on home insurance?
Great thought RTholmes but unfortunatly it would probably not be covered under homeowners insurance.
A home ( the structure itself ) is covered for open perils, meaning it needs to be specifiacly excluded from coverage.Ie a groudwater is specifiacly excluded. But since it is an open peril policy, the coffee on the rug, if damaged would be covered as it is not excluded from coverage. Heck if a deer ran into the home and kicked holes in the wall, its covered. I paid a gentleman last week for new carpets in his home because he spilled paint on his living room carpet by accident while painting his home. The carpets ran into the DR, stairs and 2nd floor hall, and he was paid to replace them all because they are continous.
Personal property ie the computer is a named peril policy, meaning that the computer, tables, clothing, toys are covered by specific perils ( or causes of loss ) ie Fire, water from plumbing, wind, theft, hail, lightning. etc etc. Usually there is 16 named perils, spilling coffee on it is not one of them.
With that said Dastardly, if you want to PM me with your insurance companys name, i would be glad to look up your policy and review the coverages to see if there is a way to get it covered. I work for one specific company now, but use to adjust homeowner claims for over 40 different insurance companies, and still have copies of the policys.
Let me know
:salute

Sounds like you have everything you would need Dastardly provided the PSU is oka. I just realized I might have one of those in a old(ish) case too tho.

Seconded. That coffee has made the skies safe again for the cowardly 110 hunter.

in the UK, we have standard cover or accidental damage cover. AD covers spillages etc. worth checking though, most people dont realise half the stuff they're covered for (which of course helps our loss ratio ;))

For about $10/year I added a homeowners insurance rider that will replace home electronics and computers following "accidents".
I've never had to use it but it's nice to know its an option if I do something dumb.
And if your particular accident isn't covered, find one that IS and do that to it, then file the claim. I think mine is written broadly enough to cover pretty much anything though, because the insurance company doesn't want people pushing computers off their desks just because whatever else happened to it wasn't covered. Cover everything and fraud goes to zero.
