P-38G? Why then, does it have P-38J intercoolers?

The answer is: This is one of 10 P-38J-1-LO aircraft that incorporated the modifications tested on that single P-38G.

My regards,

jesus imagine trying to stop it when you landed! did they land on sloped runways to help stop them? and what happened when the tail stepped out? you turned into the spin screaming as you realise you have no control whatsoever?   :D

were these flown by the '999th screaming brown trousers' brigade?

neat pic... flying on ski's is not so bad.  You you just keep using the rudder and differential power to control it, and it will basically go in a straight line since the main skis are behind the CG, and the front tracks just like wheels would due to caster.  Also, as for brakes, you don't need them on snow. There is plenty of friction to slow you down.  The problem with skis is planning turns on the ground when taxiing, and breaking the skis loose if they get a frozen to the snow.  Also sitting in the snow for a while will cause frost to form on the underside of the skis which causes tons of drag.  It can even prevent you from getting airborne.
