If we get night back instead of this persistant daylight, we should get flares for gv's that might have carried them and fighters. If gv's didn't carry flares then hey, infantry probably did and what would be accompanying tanks...that's right, infintrymen.
The flares could be used to mark ground targets or friendlies at night, and fighter droped flares could be used to indicate targets for high alt bombers. We could get those star shells and that would create a better combat environment for gv's.
I know you probably have objections, but instead of focusing on the negativites, think about wether or not you would carry a few at night if some gv guys asked you to mark targets.
-
They gonna put recon planes or troop gliders in as well? If so then flares it is.
-
night will never be re-installed in the main arenas, search the boards. HT posted it himself.
-
Then we have it in arena other then the main boards?
I was under the impression that we had it only on titanic tuesday.
And I would guess that this would not be TOO hard to moddle, so if we get this then we may get recon planes and gliders. My guess would be that we won't get gliders towed by C47's. Then HTC would increase the troop count required or make it so you have to carry supplies in the c47.

The only time there's night in game is offline or once in a blue moon in special events (in the SEA arena).

The board is not an arena :)
I would like to see it, but its not going to happen.
-
You know what MOST WW2 airplanes did when it got dark outside?
Thats right big guy....they went to SLEEP!
Leave night out of the game, and while your at it, speed up dawn and dusk to about salvo 0.5 :rock

we had some nighttime flyin in FSO this week. Nighttime CV landings!

no hijacking please. And Yeager, I don't mean it would be the same as the real world, maby like 30mins of night and 90mins of dawn, day, and dusk.
-
I remember when they had night in the MA. It was not enjoyable at all.
I'm glad it's gone, and I hope it never comes back.

Why does everyone seem to hate realism and diversity :noid?
-
Why do people whine when they don't get their way?
-
It is not a whine, it is a serious question.
I have noticed that it seems some people act as if they feel threatened by change. (not a reference to Obama's sloagan or members of any political. I don't care to know your poitical views and as for mine... that is hardly any of your buissines.) They shoot down any suggestion for change of the game or something that would possibly interfere with their base grabing or kill scoring.

Night will never happen in the main arena...again.

except maybe christmas!

If we get flares and infantry, then we better get a mash unit and Hot nurses to treat our burns. :aok
I just hope DrDeath doesnt treat me. :D
-
I lol'd :D.
Well maby not infantry, but you can't say that a tank would drive on it's own, and that there wouldn't be an emergency kit in a jeep or a halftrack.

Though I would prefer it be brought back I've already made my arguments on the issue too many times already to bother doing it again.
But I'd had to bet anything valuable on your statement. ;)
Google dude. Google :D
Just a few
"the first night bombing attack in the history of U.S. carrier aviation was carried out by VT-10 from the Enterprise with 12 radar equipped TBF-1C's. The attack, delivered at low level, scored several direct hits on ships in the harbor. In a brief enemy air attack on the same night, Intrepid was hit by an aerial torpedo. For the campaign, night fighter detachments of VF(N)-76 and VF(N)-101 (assigned F6F-3's and F4U-2's equipped with AIA radar) were assigned to five carriers and, while not widely used, were on occasion vectored against enemy night raiders"

Another idea to put a good laugh in the forums! :rofl

Yeager just got powned.
-
Irrelevance
Those are all (or the vast majority are) specially designed night time aircraft, of which we have none. ;)
Yeager just got powned.
No, and it's not 'powned'.
-
gimme a break dred. When night fighters come into the game you can turn the lights off. Until then just forget it. Alas, of the hundreds of thousands of combat aircraft built during the war "MOST" were not equipped to fly at night. By "most" I mean damned near ALL.
Thanks :)
-
Why does everyone seem to hate realism and diversity :noid?
because it will kill the game. The more realistic it become the more players will quit due to it being more like work to fly and fight than it is fun. HTC is in business to make money, not a realistic simulation.
-
While I would agree that nightfighters should come with the darkness...
We do have some of the airframes that were modified for that work, and did it well!!!
110s, JU88s, A20s, Avengers, Hellcats
Not all planes that engaged in combat at night were "made for, or modified for it" either...
Wildesau? Day fighters with pilots who had boatloads of guts!!! Of course they would
need ground direction to make it more realistic... Being as our game radar works a bit like
Wurzburg or Freya, (or combo of the two)... It could be worked out!!!
Lanks with Oboe, and Window, and the other goodies that Bomber Command whipped up!!!
Skeeter and Boston ramrod missions... Intruders holding just off the fighter fields waiting
for the Nachtjagers the come home...
Sounds like fun to me!!! Peering out of a Lank turret into the darkness, until you are blinded
by searchlights, or see the muzzle blast and tracers less than 100yds out... (LOL, The LAST
thing you see!!!)
I think it would be difficult/challenging/fun, and DIFFERENT!!!
But it'll never happen, too much messin around with the game equasion... Too bad!!!
Ah, whatever!!! Was a nice thought!!!

LMAO The point was that the war didnt stop due to night. It was a 24/7 operation
"Most" and by most I mean the very mass majority of aircraft in WWII weren't equipped with on board radar either yet... :)
I agree with what Fugitive stated. The most accurate reason why we dont have night is that HT feels
because it will kill the game. The more realistic it become the more players will quit due to it being more like work to fly and fight than it is fun. HTC is in business to make money, not a realistic simulation.
And for exactly those reasons I'd also like to see see of the night fighters added to the game with or without the night.
Personally, for the short time it lasted. something like 15 minutes or so, I liked the night. And thought it was a nice touch.

Why do people whine when they don't get their way?
Especially when 3 billion Chinese wouldnt give a darn.
-
Why does everyone seem to hate realism and diversity :noid?
The effects of night on a computer pale in comparison to the real thing anyway.
-

What's the position of the sun have to do with whether or not an airplane is capable of flight? I assure you each and every one of those airplanes could fly at night. Their fighting potential might be reduced depending on the equipment but flying the airplanes themselves is anything but an impossibility.
-
I was one of the many people who logged off whenever it was night-time in the MA. There was a considerable drop in the number of players in the MA when it occurred. For me the most frustrating thing in Aces High was logging into the MA and discovering it was night-time.
For me at least night was a novelty item, it was enjoyable intially, but it soon wore off.

In terms of fighters, maybe.
However, after the Battle of France, British bomber raids occurred mostly at night. The Germans too switched to night time bombing after the Battle of Britain pettered out and became the Blitz.

I think you get my point. Congrats......some of the thicker skulls still have problems though.

While I understand the ramifications of having "night-time"(and that it's not coming back) in the game, I would still find it interesting to have night especially if we had the aircraft that were properly outfitted to do so..
While we do have "Dar", we don't have any way of knowing what alt a given contact is at other than they are definitely over 500 feet. So, if something could be added to certain planes
that would show elevation off the nose or something similar.. I'm sure it'd be something I'd get either frustrated or bored with eventually.. It'd still be neat to experience at least, though..
Also, something I stumbled upon something that could be added to the GV realm if night time ever made it to the AH MA.. Found this interesting as well as informative.. I knew German's were using IR technology, but not to this extent..

I completely understand night is never coming back.. Just thinking hypothetically..
Haven't been in game long enough to know what night was like other than Christmas Eve a couple of times..
I'd probably get sick of it too eventually.. :lol
