I always wondered myself why in a sustained turn with constant speed the G-load is below 2G (~1.5G).
a quick calculation for a G2 of propforce and drag says to me a 3G turn should be possible. Not at 140Mph, when you open throttle in a hard sustained turn @140Mph you should accelerate. But 3G @ ~190mph is not unrealistic imo.
I found something LLv34_Camouflage posted a long time ago:
Taken from "Lentäjän Näkökulma 2" - "Pilot's Point of View 2", a book about the fighters the Finnish Air Force used in WW2:
"Pekka Kokko (FAF test pilot) did turning tests in the (Me 109 G-2) MT-215 with a stopwatch. At one kilometer's altitude, [...]
A constant 360 degree turn took 22 seconds at 360 km/h, with full throttle. Bank angle was 70 degrees and load 3 G's."
So 3G @ ~230Mph with 3G load WAS possible!
I recently flew with a Cessna. The pilot showed us a constant 2G turn. He has absolutly no problem to fly it without altitude loss. NO AH plane can be flown with a sustained 2G turn without altitude loss! Can you compare a Cessna to a WW2 fighter? Good question, i´d say the powerful engines allow ww2 fighter to fly sustained turns at much higher speeds AND with higher G-loads than a cessna!
Why is this not possible in AH? Why have all planes here so much drag especially in slow flights (see glide rates)?
Are here some real pilots? What do you think is it possible to fly a sustained turn with more than 2G?

Even a C-130 can do a sustained 2+ G turn all day until it runs out of fuel (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I suspect the 109 had a bit better power-to-weight ratio than the 120,000-lb Lockheed family truckster.
I suspect if you look at some EM diagrams like the one from the P-51 over in the turn-rate thread in the other forum, you'd see that all the high-powered WW2 planes have a sustainable 3G turning curve at SOME speed.
If it can't be done in the sim, well...

Niklas,
I am dying to see what Pyro finds in his turn rate calcs. He said he it was on his list for version 1.04. I am willing to bet that no A/C in AH is capable of a sustained 3G turn for more than 1/2 turn. I also think that just as importantly that the G toelerance levels need to be increased so some of the high speed maneuvers can be used as well. It really opens up the world of ACM when you can do a high speed reversal or barrel roll without either passing out or bleeding so much E as to come to a complete stop in mid air.
