Title: Tank fortifications at airfields?
Post by: fire_ant on July 31, 2000, 03:08:00 PM
I was thinking about the Pz IV, with it's relatively weak armor, and it occured to me that based on what I have read in Normandy and Belgium they used to generally ambush American tanks from a hull-down position.
That made me think, it would be really cool (it it's possible) to model some embankments around airfields, which say two or three tanks could drive into and get into hull down positions to aid in airfield defense.
This would also help against rocket attacks and strafing.

As an added note I think it would be cool to put M18 hellcats, and ppossibly even M8 armored cars in the game because they are so fast and could cover ground from one airbase to another much more quickly.

yes and a 25 hp kubelwagon would be fun.
than i would really feel home.
it saved Erwin Rommel once when he drove it ove a mine field. luckily the car was very light  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

this supercar wich still drives today as beetle must be in the game hehe.

give it some panzerschreck's to annoy panzers

Fireant I think that is a very good idea . That is what armor and cav units do when they stop for any amount of time anyway .

M8 could be nice, with 37mm and a machinegun, could go fast and go have fun to some airfield, perhaps punch through rear of Pz-IV  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Jeep with .50 caliber or Kubelwagen with MG34 and panzerschrecks, that would be neat also.. imagine tankers face when they get killed by kubelwagen and its panzerschreck.. though, jeep and kubelwagen gets easily knocked out by 7.92mm  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Ammo trucks wouldn't be for bad either - to get some on field reloading for a tanks so that you don't have to 'replane'

What blah ?
what wrong with ferdinands porsche best creation. A jeep and kubel would just be fun.

facts designed in 38' still builded in mexico today. over 22000000 builded
also known as dune buggy, buggy, transporters, also very good dragster.
motor in the back rules against those very heavy big block american types.

yep it's a simple smart thing wich broke most records there was one who made 1,7 million kilometers with only one engine replacement. there was also a 4x4 version called the swimmwagon yes it could float and cross rivers. no blah but very good german engineering. Also american forces loved the captured kubel and left sometimes their jeep behind. with a big block in front u never turn and corner like a beetle :rollin
