Title: Tron Legacy
Post by: AKKuya on July 28, 2009, 08:00:38 PM
Back in 1982, a little movie came out that stunned the children completely and left the adults scratching thier heads," Is this a movie or a cartoon movie?"  We all wanted to be in a computer game like the movie.  That movie was Tron.  Unfornutately, it did very poor at the Box office but mantained a spot in all of us since then.

The CGI was so experimental that many adults watched being confused as to a live action movie or a cartoon movie.  Most of the computer scenes in the movie was shot in black and white then in editing they were given colors later.  Still, it was the first for CGI.  The Last Starfighter was the next major film to have CGI and then The Abyss.

We didn't know what CGI was until 1989 to 1992 when this concept was talked about.  In 1982, that was the year it really began.  Tron was such an excellent film even with the simple things it displayed compared to the films since Jurassik Park.  The light cycles is what captured our imagination all those years ago.

Now, in 2010 after 28 years, Disney will release Tron Legacy.  I've seen some trailers for the movie and are completely stunned now at the degree of visual detail and look for the Computer World.  I'm sure this how the original creators wanted the first Tron to be but the capabilities were not there.  This movie will be the way Peter Jackson remade 2005 King Kong from the 1933 movie.  Both were excellent for thier respective eras.

This a movie that will be one of the best in 2010 and hopefully a top 20 for worldwide release.

I remember Tron, saw it in the theater...  Played the game in the arcade...

Hope they don't cheese up the remake too much...  I'll go to see it, if the early reviews aren't too bad...

Although, I did watch the original not too long ago, it's kind of funny to watch now...

It looks amazing, and will be a nice change from Michael Bay's "Loud Noises, Slow Motion Shots, and Explosions."

I find this to be a better illustration.

I think a lot of people will see it just for nostalgia, no matter how good or bad it is.  I'll try to watch it in theaters for that reason alone, just because I liked the original TRON.  I suppose that's sort of a dumb reason, but there it is.

It worked for "War of the Worlds."

I was a bit too young to remember the original in theaters (I was 2). I'll definitely be seeing this one.

I just hope it comes to the older local theater instead of the flashy new theater with crap service. Even the popcorn is better in the old place and its cheaper too!

LoL...  Generally I might agree with you...  But for something like a Tron remake, I think I would prefer an I Max theater...  I mean if they are going to try and generate that same "cutting edge" feeling, they might as well do it in I-Max...

It said select theaters nationwide and I-Max nation wide I believe.

Call me crazy but I dont care much for remakes. I enjoy the classics the way they were done the first time.

Boxleitner is back as well, but no word yet on his role in the film. I thought I'd heard rumors somewhere that David Warner may return as Sark, as well.

Not only will the movie be in IMAX but in 3-D as well.  For this type of film, I'll be watching each type of release regular, IMAX, and regular 3-D and IMAX 3-D.  Normally, you watch in the theater then later buy the DVD.

Interesting teaser...I kinda still like the original light cycles

I've loved Tron since I saw it at the movies...its suprising how little real CGI there is in the film, the making of Tron doco on the DVD is a must for fans

I loved Tron when it first came out. I was so original, a satisfying movie. If I can put it that way. Saw it lately and thought it looked dated naturally. I also thought the end of level boss was a bit cheesy. Maybe the remake will be more edgy.

I like the trailer. I definitely want one of those light cycles. While I like the 'motorcycle' sound. I think the original is more authentic after all. I can't help cynically wondering if the movie or the inevitable spin off game will be more important.

Well, as most of America does not have an arcade nearby, not including those "arcades" at movie theaters, the movie might be more important.

I always thought that if the light cycle was destroyed during the game, the player driving it was de-rezed. In the clip, he survives (until he is killed by the hands of flynn).

 :huh

I always considered anyone who liked Tron when I was a 11 year old a nerd and therefore a total spazoid. Disliking Tron back then helped my nerdy only-kid-in-my-class-with-glasses self distance myself from other nerdlings of the day, thus making me 1% cooler.

2 years later when I got my first Apple IIc and started trying to "program" said nerdlings wouldn't talk to me or help me.

That movie still makes me mad, just like The Black Hole.

Why dont you like The Black Hole?
Title: Re: Tron Legacy
Post by: Mustaine on July 30, 2009, 07:58:47 PM
Star Wars and Battlestar Glactica were my kings back then... Buck Rogers was a cheap knock off of Battlestar in my little mind, and Black Hole was another sci-fi rip off of popular media.

Plus I didn't understand a single thing about the movie. I watched most of it one night (starting at the begining) and was so confused I thought I was watching one of my mothers soap operas.

I haven't even thought of it since until this thread rofl, just something of the era that popped into my head that annoyed me.

Try 1928.

I'd say that beats Battlestar Galactica by just a few years.

I hate to drag up old threads, but I think Tron is worth it.

With the release of some marketing to hype up Tron: Legacy, the new theatrical trailer has been released, and needless to say, it looks amazing. Move over Avatar, we have 3-D, super hi-def CG with skin-tight suits and light cycles!
