Title: AWA: Air Warriors Anonymous
Post by: jscharpf on January 23, 2000, 10:30:00 AM
I would just like to hear from all AW3 pilots who have tried this sim, and who are converting over.
My CPID at AW was RBN, and I was for some time in a squad called the Cutthroats Mercenary Company.
It was good to see several of my ex-squad mates up here, and I see they already have a squad here!
I guess I would just like to hear from all AW pilots to see who is coming over to this sim.
I have already cancelled my Gamestorm account, lol.

 <raises hand>

I still have this 'thing' in my heart for AW though. Must be 'first girl' syndrome.
If not for the fantastic scenarios I'd never fly it though. All my air time is here  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

2nd squad was Skulls
Last 1.5 yrs with Flying Tigers FRpac
Canceled my gamestorm account few nites ago.
Removed AW3 from HD yesterday...
Have found it Frustrating at times learning
the FM over AWs.But great feeling of accomplishment when it all starts coming
together.
Only chance of me going back would be to
check out awVietnam(if it happens (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)

I started flying in AW on AOL 7 yrs ago. A group of us formed the Rebel Rousers. We then moved over to Gamestorm for AWIII when AOL started charging like WB’s. About 2 yrs ago the Rebel Rousers merged into JG52 and have been there ever since. At this time I have no plans to give up my Gamestorm account. I enjoy the unity in Airwarrior that I don’t seem to find here in Aces High. Before you flame me let me explain. I have been flying Aces High since the beginning and it is a great game. (Yes it is a game; anything that allows you to keep coming back with a new life is a game) It is a lot of things we all had hoped Airwarrior would have evolved into. The major piece I find missing is UNITY in efforts. I have yet to see any squad in here run any type of operations. The style of play is the old “king of the hill,” “free for all”. Which is fun for a while but wears off after time. When I first came over there was talk of Rail yards, Trains, Ships, and other targets we had not seen in any other online sim. That is what brought my friends and I here. There must be more than graphics and flight models to hold long-term interest. For emersion factor there must be a sense of purpose and camaraderie. Until there is something more than an enhanced version of what is currently offered in Airwarrior (capture the flag, oh I mean field) I find it hard to justify a higher cost.

Grizzly from AW here. I've been trying AH off and on since it started. But I have a problem and I don't know if it's me, the game, or my computer setup. I just can't maneuver the planes. For casual flying everything works just fine, but when trying to fight anything I do results in a compression stall, even small moves. I've tried everything, adjusting joystick etc. Nothing helps. I watch my speed but it doesn't matter if I am fast or slow, I end up bogging down with the enemy flying circles around me. I think I know what I'm doing too. I'm good at flight sims =o)  I've played AW FR for years. If it's something I'm doing wrong, I haven't got a clue. Point is, I won't be joining AH. But if I did, I would also keep my AW account... IMO AW can't be beat.

So long everyone

I guess I too fit into this category.

I started to play AW back in the early AW4W days on AOL.

My first squad was with the Skulls, and me and 911 (Stalker) were squaddies.

Currently I am a member of the ACCS, but most of my flying over the past two years in AW has been in Scenarios.

But then again, I am also a Warbirds pilots, having flown there since the late beta days and having spent most of my arena time there the past two years, flying with the **MOL** Squadron.

Talk about sim-schizophreniza :p . And now I seem to have added a third with Aces High.

HT, are we talking original with the mouse as yer stick, or the latest flavor?  Personally, AW has a fond spot in my heart as well, being the grandaddy of online flight sims.  It, like WB also took a sizeable chunk out of my budget.

Good hunting all of y'all!   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Add my name to the list of AW junkies for about 6 years.  Name was +Jase and I flew with the NOMADS.  Was a time where there were dozens of us there, but the #'s have shrunk alot.  A few of the mads have come to AH and we hope to start over here.  Never a greater bunch of guys to fly with then the old Nomads of AW.  I guess that's why I like AH so much, it reminds me of the old days in AW classic Full Real arena where only about 40 guys were up, but almost all of them were quality flyers.  That was until the flood of kids hit.  AH has the unique opportunity to remain pure in its goal of being an adult sim with a "tight" community.  My only question is WHEN IS THE FIRST "AH" CON?  Hehe.

an other AW stick, i started just after Aw went to AOL..flew RR for 18 months or so and went FR for about 3 months before beekweek started..flew FR ever since in AOL then GS...meet Moss Spike HR Big-T and a bunch of guys at AW99 and moss told me about AH later in the year.

I've flown everything in AW cept the 38 reasonably well but have found the learning curve very steep for me here in AH. I'm a pure angles fighter by choice and the combination of higher e loss and tougher FM have been brutal so far..but is a great game.

Once the apple has been bitten into never again one may return to the point and shoot arena which is AirWarrior III.

Miss my squadies and the weekly squad nights but can no longer afford (time) two flight sims.

Another AW-Pilot here.

Flew AW since 1997, FR the last 18 month.
RR before that. Got disappointd they way it went the last 6 month.

If I did not have squaddies and other Friends over there, change would be easy.

Still thinking   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Well I guess I'm one of the Old Dogs of the Bunch.  I started AWer back in the Dos days, on Genie Where you would fly for 4 or 5 mins. then have to reboot. (doesn't seem much has changed) Was (HOG) back then.  With Aol I used the handle (Justa) flew in FR along with jase and others.. But I'd have to say I liked euro Terrains over Pacific back then. I now fly in the Big Pac Arena On GameStorm and use the handle (Jmutt) and fly with The Eagles. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I've also flown on Warbirds and thought the flight sim was very very good for it's time.   My first impression of AH was that it's just another Warbirds.  Same people who started One just got pissed off at the system and started their own.  Only after playing it a while does one see a (few) subtle differences.  I think for the average ftr dweeb they wouldn't notice the difference and would probably take WB's over Aces just because of the no's of people playing and the  significantly larger choices of planes and eye cany that would be available.  Price on the other hand would be the big difference.
Now for the question as to whether I'll stay with Aces?  Probably for another 6 or 7 months.  I'll give HT and company the opportunity to show me the consumer what they have planned.  If I don't like the way it's pannin out, I'll take my money elsewhere.  I'll probably stay with Game Storm for the time being just because of the Eagle's and I like the Idea of Loyalty.
OH yea one other thing that will drive me away faster than skunk spray is If I see the Greed and pompus attitudes that was most evident in the I-Magic eschalon.  I got to the point in Warbirds where I was totaly disintereasted because of the Companys attitude of We're so Great and If you don't want to shell out the bucks then piss on you.

Heya Justa!  Been a long time man.  Good to see you still flying somewhere.  I lost interest in AW after they canned my aw4w's 38 and went with that acrade game known as AW3.  I will stay here and hopefully we will see the 38 soon.  Take care.

First off SF, AW has been around LONG before 1996.  It was 7 or 8 years old at that point.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  I started flying AWClassic...in '96 too, on AOL.
I am or was a closed Beta tester for AW3 and am proud to be a part of that.  Hell, my name is in the book and on the CD.  So much for my 15 minutes of fame!   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
   Lets hit the other issues....
RBN is,  or was a member of the CMC, Cutthroats Mercenary Company.  CMC.
I joined them on 1/23/97.  Boa, was the CO then, and is HOST to many News Groups and events in the AW Community. http://www.cutthroats.com/ (http://www.cutthroats.com/)

OK, I am an AW player.  I am K-KEN in the arenas, and have been a CMC Cutthroat for 3 years.  We fly in the FR and RR arenas and are a highly visable and respected group of pie-lets.  I think that we were voted the #1 Squad in AW in 1998.
Certainly, AH has a lot of new features, and I love them all, but remember.......we all started somewhere.  I am hooked to AH.
But I have AW to fall back to-if needed.  I love them both equally.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Was flyn with Eye last couple of nites we had a blast.  Still tryn to get used to these infernal head ons though.  They sure give rise to a whole new breed of "1 pass wonders".  I'm finding it hard as hell to learn how to walk the edge here in a turn fite when most nme's either BnZ or take 1 pass and run away......Hopefully when the beta actually ends the ones who stay will be interested in some ACM.  Was fighting against some 33rd and a couple of 'mads for awhile great fun! Can't remember the last time my KD was this bad :>   but I must say I haven't had this much fun flyn online in years.

Justa, rip, stop, you guys making feel old
(http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) was IRA back in the Genie days, stayed until aol, then permanently moved to WB as
(pzvg what else) left that sim about 2.01
money a small prob, mostly wasn't fun anymore
like what I see here, but won't be flying for quite some time, again money. (not your
pricing HT, it's fair I just don't have it)
And oh, for those of you who think $30 a month is too pricey, I think I still have a copy of my $450 genie bill, so SHADDUP! :P

Started on Airwarrior back in DOS and on Genie days. Finally left AW for Warbirds and the Hitech group. Warbirds was so expensive I finally gave up rationing myself to flight time and went back to AW.

I do love the Scenarios on AW and hope to see some of those on AH.

Haven't had much chance to fly in the Beta AH so I'm trying to get some flight time before the free time is up

Finally, a good combat flight sim with a Flat Rate!
