Title: Weird problem after update.
Post by: Chris72 on July 29, 2009, 01:12:33 PM
Hopefully this hasn't been covered... I looked.

When the game starts, my mouse pointer locks up an aweful lot. But after I get in and uncheck the detailed terrain, it goes away. Then I can turn on detailed terrain and everything in the advanced tab and my frame rate settles into 20 fps (75 with it all turned off). I seem to have to do this each time I start the game.

I also have a problem with the clipboard (the part that shows the roster) coming out and spinning around and around (with no text on it) for no reason.

And finally, my display (ctr I) shows my Vidmem as 0.0/Used 3200.9 when this is happening. Once I go through the steps mentioned above, it shows 512/100.

XP Pro, AMD dual 2.1, 1 gig RAM, 512 mb Geforce card

Not sure if you've tried this but I noticed like me, your using an AMD Dual Core CPU. If you were using AH in Windows 98/SE compatibility mode before, ( and if you haven't already), you will need to right click the game launch icon on your desktop, and select Windows 98/SE compatablity mode. Your video memory is not actually showing like mine did before I took this action. Also I would suggest you try using Game Booster. A8Tool turned me onto this free program that frees up alot of your system memory for game play. It has made my system much more stable,( AH is more CPU intensive than GPU intensive ). Find Game Booster at www.iobit.com (http://www.iobit.com).

Yeah, I just noticed the sticky about the compatibility issue... seems to have worked.

Still have trouble with the other things.

I'll try Game Booster.

Thanks!

Nvidia GeForce 7100 GS.

Game Booster did nothing for the screen freezing. And now it seems my way of fixing it no longer works.

7100 GS?! My goodness, that has to be the source of at least 30% of your computer problems! If you want to play AH, you might consider upgrading to a 7600/8600/9600 or higher.

7100 should work, but you will need to run with 256 Maximum Texture Size, 1280x1024 (or there abouts) video resolution, no Detailed Terrain option on.

If the game is not saving options, then the folders/files have been marked read-only.  I really would like to get a handle on what application you guys run that causes our game files to get marked read-only.

Just the installation process. Strangely enough everything under C:\HiTech Creations is marked read only as a system default. Even if you open the properties page and uncheck read only, it defaults back to read only.
