Title: It doesnt cost perks!?!?!
Post by: stodd on July 29, 2009, 02:07:10 PM
Mabey a small bug or an intentional change here not sure. The t34/85 and m4 dont cost any perk points. It also looks like the Tiger's perk cost has increased...which to me any ways doesnt make a ton of sense.

As pointed out in earlier threads and in bugs forum, all reverted to old (3 years ago) ENY and perk values. Ta 152 is perked "again" for example

For as easy as it is to kill a Tiger with the Sherman I have never understood why it was perked so high. The turret is slow to turn and I have killed them with one shot in a Panzer many times. I actually hunt them in the m-4 as soon as I hear Tiger I start looking for it. If the sight was improved the Tiger may be worth the perks or the armor worked like I read in books where they survive over a 100 hits from the low velocity 75mm on the US M-4 at close range.

I'm not an expert on armored vehicles, but isn't the Sherman a British version of the M4 with an improved gun compared with the regular American version. Sure I read that somewhere.

The FIREFLY is an improved Sherman, yes. The Sherman is the Sherman and we don't have one. :)

which is about crazy if you ask me,I think we should have had the US M4 first, and later have the better-gunned Firefly

The Firefly carried the british 17 pounder anti-tank gun, very much on par with the Panthers 75mm L-70 which was considered one of the best anti-tank guns of the war.

By considering R105's recent posting history, I'm quite confident he will ignore this particular information.  ;)

Curious because I dont know not because im trying to be sarcastic.
With the improved gun on the firefly. was the armor improved as well?
Shermans were known as "Purple heart boxes" or "Ronsons" because of their notoriously weak armor and because they caught fire so easy "Lights first time every time" Its main assets were their speed, ease of maintenance & repair & great numbers produced. (It was a gangbanger)

Yet armor on the Firefly here seems abnormally tough to me.

As for the tiger
In addition to its thick armor he Tiger was lethal at greater ranges then anything we have in game but particularly against the T34 Which if its modeled that was would justify its perk value.
Thing is, here with everyone liking to camp and get in close both its armor and superior killing range are negated.

I've heard it both ways. I (at least thought) I had read a thread on how the armor had been upgraded, but when I shared that "knowledge" later I was jumped with "No it wasn't!" :lol

Fires in the early M4s were mainly the result of poor ammo storage, which was largely corrected in later versions.

The armor is of comparable thickness to the T-34 -- funny that you never hear of a T-34's "notoriously thin" armor, eh?  And generally the quality of metal on the Sherman was better than the T-34.

Armor was not upgraded on the Firefly, but with the much better gun, it is engaging the enemy at a longer range than your typical M4 encounter.

didn't the m4 change from a cast shell to a fabricated shell at some point?

The Sherman's didn't have bad armor.  The German's just had excellent anti-tank guns.  I actually think the Panzer IV's 75mm L-48 in this game seems underpowered to me.
