Title: Fuzzy Instruments
Post by: Anaxogoras on July 29, 2009, 06:12:54 PM
Some of us have noticed that our instruments appear a little bit fuzzy compared to the previous version of AH: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,270129.0.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,270129.0.html)

Unfortunately, although I tried out the beta I didn't really notice this until someone else pointed it out, otherwise I would have pointed it out sooner.

I downloaded and installed the new high res pack before I even loaded the game.  I have toyed with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, but neither made any difference.  I run 1280x1024 res.

Here is some of the dxdiag:

I did not have the problem in beta.

It was brought up in one of the beta threads. Not sure what the resolution to it was if any, you can search in the beta section.

I downloaded and installed the new high res pack before I even loaded the game.

I have no idea if this would change anything, but shouldn't you install the latest hires texture stuff *after* the latest AH is installed (just in case the default AH install overwrites some things)?

No, I installed the game first, and then installed the texture pack.  By "load" I meant running the .exe.

Seems it could be video driver related.  See this thread. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,269972.0.html)

here's another thread with same issue. not sure how to relate it to the thread your referencing Skuzzy. I'm a computer idiot on this end.

If you read the entire thread I linked, the player updated his video card driver and his problems went away.  Not sure that is actually the fix, and I know we are looking at it as well.

Hi skuzzy, I'm going to give that a try right now and see if it helps.  Thanks for your time.

-------------

Edit:  I reinstalled the driver and there's no difference.  I searched the Nvidia site and this seems to be their newest driver that supports my 9600GT.  Give it a try?

Also check the gauges after the 2.14 Patch 2 is installed.

will try the driver, thinking that will fix it. I got rid of the Catalyst Control Center and using the ATI Tray Tools now.

Ok, I installed the latest driver from nvidia and Patch 2.  Then I reinstalled the hi-res texture pack just to be sure...  The instruments are still not as crisp as they used to be.

As an experiment, did you turn off all antialiasing, both in Aces High and in your nvidia control panel (including for any settings saved specifically for the Aces High program, i.e., any nVidia profile you have for that program specifically)?

You might already have done that -- just curious if it has any affect.

Still no luck  :(

There is no difference in the clarity of the instruments when I change anti-aliasing.  I do not have a specific setting for AH, but I've tried leaving the settings application controlled and it made no difference.  Kermit suggested that I play with the video quality options, i.e. performance-quality, and that also makes no difference.

Skins appear normal.  They are not blurry like others have reported.

In the past the only thing that ever affected the clarity of the instruments was the screen resolution, but 1280x1024 doesn't have the same clarity as it used to.  Still, the instruments are not awful, but they look like they used to when I ran 1024x768.

-------------

Fwiw, the best look I've had so far is when I restore everything back to factory settings.  There might be a little bit of improvement, but it's still not as good as it was before.

DL new video driver and everything looks the same

OK...here is what worked for me.

I actually uninstalled ATI Tray tools.  (previously uninstalled CCC)

I then moved antialiasing in-game to full.  Made sure vert sync was enabled.

In otherwords I'm letting the game itself control my graphic controls to the extent they can.

With the new patch I am reading correctly the vid Mem usage display.  Previous to this patch (yesterday)

My vid display read VidMem 512M  USED 4009.6 but still had max frames.

I ridded my system of ALL graphic card controlers (CCC & Tray Tools) and am letting the game control my graphics.

The only thing off is shadowing and now my Vid MeM display reads VidMeM 512M  USED 143.2M.

We just may imho have a problem with some systems that are using CCC and/or ATI Tray Tools for some reason.

My FR is now pegged at 59 -60  everything maxed to quality in-game and it looks superb.

Maybe using some type of Vid card control outside the game, and graphic setting inside the game such as anti-aliasing

we MAY be getting conflicts.  <shrugs>

Disclaimer....this is a shot in the dark and an uneducated guess.  Best I could do  ;)

BTW if you have software that can repair your registry, (Driver Cleaner etc. use it after the uninstall...and scan your registry more

then once for problems.)

Just a quick question, I haven't been at my computer and won't be for a while here. Anyone with bluriness issues seen an improvement with the patch?

I saw tremendous improvement with the fuzziness after patch 2 and I didn't change anything settings wise.
