A DXDIAG output would be helpful.

Are you talking about the game just freezing and not coming back to life?  If so, I have the same problem and would like to post my dxdiag in a few hours as well...

:furious
I know I know. Im not beefing about it yet.Thats why I didnt post the dxdiag.I wanted to update everything and see if that helped.
Here ya go and btw,it runs flawlessly in Vista for me.I took your advice and followed your yellow brick road of directions on what to turn off in Vista.  And Im talking having to reboot the computer lock up.

Can I assume you are running the game in "Windows 98/Windows ME" compatibility mode?  Do not assume that setting was retained after a patch.

Im assuming your talking about the XP.I never set that to run in anything other the standard setting.

It seems I am having the same problem.  Skuzzy, I have emailed you my dxdiag, whenever you get a chance.  I am also not understanding what the "compatibility mode" question means (if it applies to me as well).

Thanks,

I didnt have any issues in the beta.I was really impressed with that.Other than the self shadow,I could max it out. Im sure this will turn out to just be a driver issue. One that I plan to fix today. The vista boot runs fine, but the vox is to low from my end and I cant find any boost like xp has.

Use the Vista audio controls in your control panel...audio devices...should have a master volume control there.

Update your sound card drivers...not sure if it is directx 9.0c compatible but you can try.

Skuzzy was wanting you to try right clicking on the game executable shortcut on your desktop and click on "run as"...should be an option for "Win98" in there.

You could try to drop your video card resolution a couple of notches so you're not maxed out...that uses a lot of the GPU resources...go into the game and drop your textures to 512. In tower uncheck everything and see what happens. If you don't get any lockups...go back in tower and turn on detailed terrain and try again...repeat for each option until you're sure you don't get any lockups...if you want to use the 1024 textures, make sure you download and install the newest hi res pack...then start over with nothing checked in the display options while in tower...

Last note...this is assuming you don't have the game installed under C:\Program Files

Vudak - if you are using an Nvidia 7000 series video card please post here:

Hang in there.

I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+, so I don't think that's me, but I just figured I had a similar problem, so I'd toss it in to an old thread instead of making my own.

It's a sporadic nuisance (I've had it happen maybe 3 times in 10+/- hours) so very low priority for me, but I figured I'd pass along the information in case someone already found a fix.  I can deal with it until the problem's fixed for guys having a worse time.

Spoke to soon. 2 full blown lockups tonight. 1 in cv ack and 1 that acted like that sound related lockup. Talking while looking around with views.

Talking while looking around is common to my lockups as well.

I have nearly the same setup as you except for the video card, I have the GTX9800 OC. Skuzzy is right, if you don't have the AMD Optimzer installed, you will have to run it in compatability mode. However I have found that with the last 2 patches and having the AMD Optimizer active, I can run both cores of my CPU now, and the "lock-ups" for me have seem to have gone away. Course the jury is still out, need more game play to determine that.

8600 GT and a driver version 6.14 ? Doesnt sound right. Let me ask? Have you updated your graphics card driver since you bought the system?

Blind as I am I started another tread (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,270536.msg3381481.html#msg3381481) about what seems to be the same issue as in this topic. The one thing that I found especially interesting was the "talking while looking around" that I too mention with other words! Not only does it happen most usually with the talking and looking but I can actually try to "lure" the freeze by adjusting the views of a plane with the keyboard numpad/PageUP/-Down/Arrow keys (and thus pressing many buttons down simultaneously).

And I've been updating my drivers, downgraded my puter from BIOS to make it safer and as of yet haven't find any solution...

I seriously think that all these stuttering problems have something to do with soundcards, I updated mine and now its alot better not perfect yet though.

I installed the latest drivers for the vid card. Dated July this year.Ive updated since posting that dxdiag. Thats why I didnt post it to begin with.I was going to update the drivers.I think Ive got it nailed to use in Vista, but would rather use my xp boot.

Good to hear, though I gotta distinct my problem from stutter problems. After the few latest patches the stuttering is all gone and the game runs smooth and perfect! The problem is that it locks up every now and then - and I have updated my mobos chipset drivers as well, soundboard drivers included. No help there.

I have nearly the same setup as you except for the video card, I have the GTX9800 OC. Skuzzy is right, if you don't have the AMD Optimzer installed, you will have to run it in compatability mode. Course the jury is still out, need more game play to determine that.

Just to make sure, I have downloaded and installed the AMD Optimizer - do you have to activate it somehow as well?

Well for me I have now played for over 8 hours last two days, no stutters, no lock-ups, seems patch 3 has got me lined out. Still haven't tried self shadowing yet, will get back on that one later. The only thing that I see is that now vidmem is displaying 0 like it did in Patch 1.
