The new patch has reduced the stutters, but not eliminated the problem.
They are less severe, particularly at takeoff and on transit to the combat zone, but still happen (zooming, getting low again, clipboard)
When I got to the combat zone (I was testing in the same are as last 2 days, (sfma, a1-a19 furball) the increased again, mainly when getting low and close to other planes (=fighting). Didn't make the game completely unplayable like before, but still very much annoying & distracting (and reducing combat effectiveness). Still quite a lot of jumps in FR, 60 down do ~42, again not severe as before but still bad.
Settings:
Sliders @ Default
Detailed Water but no reflection
No self shadow
Disable other player's skins
Ah stock sounds
One test with 1024 textures & AA one notch, another test without AA and 512 textures only. No big difference
In this patch, as well as with patch 2, I am able to eliminate all stutter the following way:
Deinstalling MAD CPU driver and using stock XP drivers from 2004, and disabling compatibility mode. However, disabling compatibility mode makes minimizing game impossible, it will lock up. I didn't experience any lock ups while playing, but then I was just testing for ~20minutes.
System
AMD 64X2 4200, 2GB
GF 9600GT 512MB
SB Live 24
TrackIr
XP SP3
Newest Nvidia drivers, standard settings / application controlled wherever possible
No AV running
AH 2.13 ran fine at stable FR 60 in compatibility mode. Despite following the advice on AMD multicore processors on the forum, I was never able to run AH without compatibility mode.

hi
patch2 was much better for me with a vidoecard less better the yours!
i had a very smooth motion. so i think that problems not come from videocards.
with patch3 i must run in basic mode. too much differences.

My first guess that with a 7900 video card, cranking the resolution down to 1280 X 1024 with max textures to 512 or even 256 is a good start. Post a DXDIAG and maybe you can be helped through this.

Odd, I got a computer running close to the same CPU(AMD Athlon X64 X2 5000) doing just fine, with the only noticeable stutter is when large amounts of trees first come into view. I question if it's the CPU since I myself had to do nothing but run it in compatibility mode, I never did anything with a CPU driver or of the sort. Your GPU is also better then the one I used.
For details see this thread... http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,270181.0.html
Not sure what would be causing the stuttering. I'm hoping to attempt to get a computer running an AMD Athlon X2 4850E and an 8600GT which is fairly close to what you have soon so maybe I'll run into the same issue. The only thing I can think of ATM would be to try older drivers. I've heard people complain about the new drivers with older cards, though I've never had the issue myself.

I am getting stuttering in the game even when my frame rates are quite high.
I checked an AA and AF are being controlled by game from my video card. Any idea's?
My frame rates are 40- 130 depending on where I am in the game. When I uncheck Detailed Terrain my FPS goes up to 200 or more and stuttering goes away. But I want the eye candy and I have the System to run high end graphics:
My System:
DFI NF4 Lan-party Motherboard
Opteron 180 Dual Core processor at 2.5ghz
2g DDR1 Memory
ATI Radeon HD 3870 (512mb) Video card
22in Hanns-G monitor

With Patch 3 the stuttering came back after the previous patch fixed it for me.
-
Same here. Patch 3 has my graphics stuttering even at higher fps (70+).
-
I have a pretty much stable 50 / 60 FR performance but I experience a frame rate drop with stutters in these kind of views (http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/3708/ahss49.jpg) (http://img229.imageshack.us/i/ahss49.jpg/)
AH settings: all enabled but self shadows
none AA
512mb textures
medium range siders in graphic details
custom twinboom's sounds
Nvidia settings so far:
no AA, app controlled
preloaded frames 8
multisampling
AF 4x
