Title: Game Crashes
Post by: rpm on July 31, 2009, 08:12:54 PM
I downloaded the latest patch tonight. I was flying a P-51 over an enemy cv taking puffy ack at 15K. Suddenly the game crashed and I got a Windows error "program has unexpectedly stopped working".

I had similar issues with old box, finally decided the thing was crashing because of combo of all the puffy sounds/puffy graphics, coupled with onboard audio--I'd get near a enemy cv, damn box would all but stop (pity, best fights are there)

First time I've ever had this problem. Frame rates were 50-60, connection was good, no warps or lag.
I did the Beta and had no problems.

I have had this also. Crashed 2 times so far but I havent had much time to play lately so I cant tell how common it is.

Well HiTech has finally upgraded the game past the abilities of my 1 Gig AMD system.  I can't even play offline.  Luckily for me I have a new system but have to wait until I have the DVI cable to hook up to my HDTV.

This really sucks because it will be days before I can "correct" the issue.   :x

To help us isolate the issue - are you guys who're crashing running custom sounds?

I'm using Waffle's sound pack.

If I run in 98 comp mode, I do not get the lock ups, but I get the stutters when the screen gets busy with cons. If I dont run 98 comp mode, the game runs SMOOOOOOOTH until the inevitable CTD.

I do use custom sounds.

Would everyone who's using a custom sound return to the default sound pack and see if your crash issues go away.  If they persist, please re-post here.

Sudz-
I am not using custom sounds. My sound acceleration is 3/4. I have played most of the mid and late war maps and crashed in all of them, usually after 15-20 mins. of play. When i log in to the game, it disables hi res graphics. (Yes, i have hi res pack.). I have updated all my drivers. All my graphics are at lowest setting (which is awful, by the way) and it still is bombing out.
here is a portion of my system info. right now, the game is almost unplayable. with 2.13, my system was very stable which makes this all the more frustrating.

It just crashed again. This time I was nowhere near a CV or any puffy ack. I was in a Tiger with 4 kills(what are the odds) at A1 in the Orange arena.
Seems there are several threads covering these sudden CTD's.

I forgot to mention that even after the new patch that soon after I log into the arena I begin to see what I would call a 'white frame flash' that begins as an occasional flash and builds slowly into a quicker flash. Alt-tab seems to fix it but if I change arenas it starts again and I have to alt-tab again.

Okay Im guessing Im running texture size too high but I dont know. Is there a fix outside of a bigger video card or just time to bite the bullet? Price is no object! :D

What about max pre-rendered frames? Will that use more memory the higher it is set? I have just the first notch of AA on and screen res set to native mode (1920x1200) and I would like to use 1024 textures so do I just need more video ram? If I could get an estimate on what memory size to think about it would make things easier for me to figure out what kind of card I need.

What is AH showing with memory? I just saw you had a 512 board , it would be difficult running out of vid mem.

AH shows 4081 megs available and using 8.8 megs. I have 2 8800s using SLI with 512 on each card.

Sorry for the head fake Challenger, I do not believe it would be a vid mem problem with 512.
