Title: Farewell for now
Post by: LTARecon on August 01, 2009, 11:08:26 AM
I have deleted my AH2 account. The new look of the game is not tolerable. I do have a machine that can run it very well, but the design overall is just bad. Maybe i'll come back if they get it right. I'm not going to waste my money looking at bad design.  :salute L.T.A.R, Bishops and all the other elite squads. I will continue to stay active in the forums. It's been a pleasure.

My thoughts to anyone with problems about the new upgrade.

Sorry to hear that recon. As I understand, many people had to do the same or else upgrade their computers. Of course there are many people who did not have to or have used the info on the boards to make it at least playable until they can upgrade. One of the biggest complaints I've seen for some of the players is that depth perception problem.

I've been knocked out twice due to upgrades since Jan 2001 i think. This would have been #3 if I had not bailed a week before the upgrade due to job related issues. Like yourself though, I might be back later...the game is not going anywhere.

Depth perception problem, what depth perception problem? Oh wait I already don't have any depth perception due to I lose my right eye in an industrial accident. Does this mean I gain an advantage?  :D Recon it's been a pleasure playing along side of you. I too am frustrated even though I do have a higher end machine. I too still have problems. But myself personally am not going anywhere. Heck I was addicted to Air Warrior and AH is still way better than that. I know it is everyone's money and choice, but for me I choose to be a part of the solution. Wish you luck and hope to see you again soon.

My computer was fine. I just couldn't bare to look at the screen anymore. The water texture was pointless...because you didn't spend much time on it. They basically stripped the V-bases...all the trees for the most part are gone (made gv-ing interesting when we had the lush forest). Lesson to be learned...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unfortunately....graphics overshadow the fighters that were added.  :salute

The game runs great. Don't come on the forums with this maudlin tripe because you have an antiquated PC and can't afford to upgrade it. Your lot in life is not the responsibility of HTC, it's your alone.  The game runs wonderfully.

My PC isn't antiquated, was updated in anticipation, clean install & newest drivers, no other program/game gives me any trouble.
Only AH 2.14.  :P

I'm just wondering if you would have the same attitude if it wouldn't run on your machine...  "hey it works on majority of PCs, bad luck, I'll play something else"  ;)

There's a bunch of us still having heay stutters without having old machines...

It is running great on my PC.  It should run better.

I can't run crossfire using ati tray tools or ccc.  I uninstalled both of them.  When running crossfire my FR takes a big hit.

The game now runs great.  But....my rig should tear it up and it doesn't.

I have an Intel duocore 9400 Quad, 4 gig DDR2 memory and two ati/radeon 4850s.

Windows XP Pro sp3 and I've had to make what I consider to many changes to make the game run at peak.

Nothing should have to be turned down or uninstalled with a rig like I've just described.

I can not use CCC or ATI Tray tools and can't use Crossfired 4850 cards <shrugs>

Why does it run fine on most machines?

We are not sure
However not all of us are are computer illiterate, some of us have done a complete fresh setup of  XP with only basic stuff installed, and up to date drivers. I went through ever ypossible AH configuration, even with lowest settings. And still no luck, while all other applications (video editing, varous graphic-heavy games and so on) run fine. Personally I suspect there may be something up with AH, textures and the dual core, but that's only speculation

And "running fine on most machines" doesn't mean much at all, especially when there is more with one or two players still having trouble, and most of them with a similar hardware configuration

But I will be glad to hear your advice how to fix it. I'm currently running out of ideas.

Snailman do you have the AMD Optimizer installed, and is it loading up when you boot up? I do and now I can play AH with both cores and not have to play in compatability mode. Not sure if this will help solve your problem, but hey couldn't hurt.  :pray

I have one of those AMD x2 were the optimizer never worked. With new version I tried again, running tests with different cpu drivers too. AH runs without any stutter when not in compatibility mode, but the old multicore bug will lock game up sooner or later. Old 2.13 was running fast & stable in compatibility mode... :(

Yes I couldn't run unless in compatibiltiy mode till patch 3 of 2.14, couldn't at all in 2.13 but it ran good. Just was wondering if you had tried it, for I wasn't sure if this helped me overall or not. Other than an older video card compared to mine our systems are nearly identical. Are you using onboard audio or a dedicated audio card? Can't seem to remember your complete setup.

I almost wish I had some problems so I could have learned the fix.  Don't take that wrong, I'm not claiming I would find something you haven't. I just feel bad for people with decent systems who are having trouble.... if it's not drivers... what the heck?

This has been a problem with X-fire for some time now. I would suggest running through their forums. I will do some research and If I find something I will post in on the forums.

I hear a lot of guys did fresh installs with latest drivers and whatnot. Remember guys, the latest driver is not always the BEST for what you want to do. If you hare having problems and have the latest of everything try going back 1 driver update and run it. Many times the prior drivers can be more stable then the current one for some games. Remember to uninstall your current driver completely before installing another driver.
