Title: Thanks for being a buzzkill
Post by: dirtdart on August 01, 2009, 12:40:57 PM
Thanks HTC.  I can no longer effectively play a game I enjoy so much.  What drove you to publish such a resource intensive (MHO) game, when your client base might be made up of many folks who could play on 400 dollar systems.  I can't get the settings right to make the game fun... there it is.  200 FPS at 10K, 35 on the ground with no resolution, aliasing off, pre rendering off, min detail, game priority blah blah blah, 20 MBS connection........  with max settings on other version I was happy at 60 FPS.  To the peanut gallery that may erupt, some of us are not rich or gaming people who devote their savings to their systems. I am pretty sure that if we polled the clients we might find different planes and maps more appealing to a change in terrain which allows for very little depth perception at playable settings.  BTW, out of curiosity, what drove the change in terrain, new engine, outdated stuff????  Please fix it whatever it is, this game was a pleasure to play and I enjoy the camaraderie of my squadies.

Give an inch they take a mile.....

HTC has always been accommodating to low end users (too much IMHO).

Sorry but this update was overdue.....get use to it, get a better comp or take a break.

I hear many are not playing anymore like this, people that like the upgrade will say take a break don't pay HTC anymore and i agree ,i know in a month if nothing looks better for me ,HTC wont get my money eather.

These whines really get tiring.  If you absolutely can't play because you don't want to play with detailed terrain off or whatever other slight adjustment you may have to make, then leave and go play some other game.  Leave the rest of us alone, we don't want to listen to you cry.  No one wants to watch you throw a temper tantrum on the boards.  It's not productive at all.

They (HTC) should put up a poll. If you like the upgrade and if you dont like the upgrade. And if most of them dont like the upgrade, go back to the old version and just add more planes (cool ones not these new crappy ones) and maps. And if most of them do like it then then keep it the same, but give them about a month to make it better for all of us.

You don't think they're tired of the whines?  They believe they're product is the best.  They will allow you close your account without so much as asking why, in hopes of trying to convince you to stay, because they know if you're looking for better you won't find it and you'll be back.

Since we are just getting the same whine threads, I'll just keep quoting my same post in another whine thread!!! :D :D :D

This is all very amusing. Cut the team some freakin slack. They released two patches in as many days and never mind the fact they probably worked out oodles of kinks you'll never know about in the beta time and well before. If you didn't play the beta and notice some of this stuff and were an active participant than go watch TV or something. Don't act all surprised that your system can't cut it. It's kind of like if you're old enough to vote and don't, you have no right to complain about what goes on.

Obviously the community knows their dedication to the members. I'm sure they expected all of this uproar and quite frankly who cares. I don't need to speak with any of them to assure you they will do all they can to please as many people as possible and fix what they can. Everyone just chill out!

Nobody ever likes change, ask Shuffler. :D Unfortunately we all need evolve and so does AH. Look at how far games have come in just the last few years. Keep in mind video games are really an infant when you look at the course of technology in our lifetimes. If you want to be part of the solution instead of the problem, keep posting your issues (assuming they are relevant and not related to your Tandy computer) in the bugs and tech support sections. They will do what they can for who they can.

It's your money and if you don't want to spend it here anymore than don't. I'm sure they are prepared to lose a few over it and I'm also sure those they lose will file right back in line once they update their computers. Here's mine.

Vista (Love Vista, never an issue)
AMD Phenom Quad 9600
ATI 4870 Card
4G Ram
Saitek setup (pedals and flight system)
24" Widescreen
Not a fancy computer, nor did it cost me gaggles of moolah to produce. Half of what I have at a quarter of the cost would suffice. Ebay is your friend.

I run the game maxed to hilt with the exception of the shadows and my FR is capped at 60 and stays there.

Bottom line is FRANKIE SAYS RELAX! If that reference is lost on you than you're too young to comment! :lol

Let the team at HTC work out the kinks and you may be surprised, otherwise pipe down and go play Warbirds!

That's a quote from over a month ago....... A LOT has changed since then.

If it wasn't going as planned, they probably wouldn't have moved it from BETA.

I'm playing on a 8 year old Hp computer with a Nvidea Geforce4 Mx440 for a video card.

I have no stutters, the planes fly like they always have.

No fuzzy gauges etc.

50-60 frame rate.

I do have everything turned down, but the game still looks pretty good to me.

Its a little hard too see some things at a distance, but thats pretty much it.

Did i mention that I'm using a Nvidea Geforce4 Mx440?? (its an antique,and i'm pretty sure its a 62mb card.)

I have no sympathy for any of you guys.

 :rofl   Complaining about 30fps.

Have you written Chevrolet a letter of complaint recently because you can't afford a Corvette?

What exactly is unplayable between 60fps and 30fps?  I've been playing on what I consider to be a low end e-machine since I started.  At one point I was getting 30-40fps with everything maxed until, I think, something fried and have been playing at 256 on F3 view for months with frame rates as low as 9.

This new version, so far, I'm up to 512 resolution, still with detail off, but my frame rates are staying in the 30-59fps range.

Personally, I only look at the ground right before I crash into it or when I'm running away from a hord flying between the trees.

I fail to see the point of your whine other than to whine.  It seems you can still play, yes?  Is it not as "pretty" as before?  Have you tried changing any settings?  Playing at a lower resolution?  Seems like you are unwilling to try to get the game the way you want.

Do you buy stand alone boxed games and if they don't play right out of the box just take them back?  There is more than enough help on the boards and from HTC to possibly satisfy you but you need to do your part.  Whining is not doing your part.

Another  :rofl

What exactly are "cool" planes?  What are the "crappy" planes?

Curious.

yeah yeah.... tired of whine threads, me too.  Frankly this is one of my favorite pastimes and a wonderful sim.  Let the whine threads rain BTW, without them there is no record of the volume of trouble some folks are having with the update.  I applaud the efforts of the HTC team to patch up the release, but like I said before, what was really wrong with the old terrain?  If you want to fly in 3D HD, go play on some limited edition place with your 8G of RAM and whatnot.  For the common man this was a great set up.  You elite guys whined about the terrain and crap and left the rest of us holding the bag.  I will more than likely purchase a newer system, but dammit I should not have to.

The way I view it: Buger King vs. McDonald's. K-Mart vs. Walmart. ATI vs. Nvidia. Aces High vs. IL2.. and on and on. They are going to do what they want to do with thier business as they see fit according to thier bottom line. If people's concerns conform to thier vision of the game, that's where they go whether we like it or not. As Bill Cosby and a myraid of others have said, it is absolutely impossible to please everyone all of the time.

I watch the bank account closely as I am doing a final upgrade on this old machine to conform to the new standard, as my income sucks (Taking into consideration my three boys with ravenous appetites, and other responsibilities). Yet, I knew this time would eventually come, like it or not. I choose to stay with Aces High. This upgrade for my old PC will suffice until I get a new one built next spring.

There's a right way and a wrong way to whine though.  Anyone simply saying "I'm taking my ball and going home" is not the right way to do it.  I think all of us understand that there are people with problems running the game right now.  But those with problems also need to help be part of the solution by posting specs, screenshots, dxdiag, etc.  Post them in the Tech Support Forum or ask for help here.  There are plenty of people willing to help with the problem or offer suggestions.

I am in no way shape or form an "elite" guy.  I run this game on a 3yr old Dell laptop (basic hardware, nothing fancy) and a wireless connection.  I have my own problems to.  I'm waiting for a few weeks to see where HTC goes with the patches and such, before I make the decision to stick with what I've got or begin the upgrade process.

The problem with most of the whines is "It's not the same, I'm not willing to do anything about it.  You fix it."  Versus "I'm having issues.  What can I do to solve them."

Put in a little time and effort.  Try helping yourself a little bit or just quietly fade away.

Depends on the medium.  For movies, it's usually between 18 and 24 frame per second because of the motion blurring effect.  In video games, that don't use much motion blurring effects, it's between 30 to 60 frames per second.

The new patch is now available now.  This should resolve the major stuttering issues that many people have been experiencing.  On low end systems, it may take a little longer in this version before all the textures are fully loaded.  There's still a few more changes that HT wants to make in this area to make things a bit cleaner and quicker.

A lot of people have reported issues with degraded texture quality even when using the high res texture pack.  That is unchanged in this patch but we expect that to be changed in the next patch.

If you are using Vista, please remember to run the game as an administrator prior to using the autoupdater so that the installation doesn't fail.

That dose not say they wont fix the problems i should  go away.

I'm sorry but there are some otherwise good people jumping on the "cya" bandwagon.

Each player has a right to voice their opinion of the game and particularily after a major change such as this.
I was one of those during the last upgrade.  This is a public BBs partially for that very purpose.  If the players being negatively affected by the change don't voice their opinions then what we have is what we'll get.  I can maybe see an argument over how an opnion is expressed but I can also see that people have passion for their hobby and want to make their feelings known.

My bet is HT would rather know what the players are thinking than to have them simply cancel their accounts and having more paying customers is ultimately better for all of us.

That's all.  cya!

BUT..........give it time first...if there is no effort being shown towards fixing it....then complain.

otherwise it's like going onto the car lot, buying that silver with blue racing stripe gt500(echelon ford has one....i soooo want it), driving it home, and then calling them to complain about the noise it makes.

Software related, yes. But on which end?  I have a squaddie, has a 4ish year old machine, 5 series GEforce card and runs XP. I have a 1 year old machine, 8500gt card and vista.  He runs as good or better fps @ 1680x1050, than I do at 1024x768.   Makes ya go HUH??    We are running the exact same settings on our cards, and in game with the exception of resolution.  My frame rates you ask, anywhere from high 30's to 75. I'll stay.  For those saying they will leave, give it a chance first before you do, it may just all work out fine in time.
