Assign every plane a perk value. The value of a kill is determined by pro-rating against your plane as below:
KillValue = Min (TargetPlaneValue * (TargetPlaneValue/YourPlaneValue), MaxKillValue)
This is to reflect that it's easier to kill an early-war plane with a late-war plane than vice versa, but we give a maximum score to prevent anomalies.
Anyone can fly any plane, but you only score for the excess over the value of your plane. So let's say you take up a Me262 with a value of 100. You would have to kill 101 pts to score 1 pt. ie
FinalScore = TotalKillScore - YourPlaneValue
OK, it's a bit rough, I know.

If we can fly whatever we want, how do the points affect the game?

Our squad flies for rank, and we fly them all mainly LW planes which have a short coming in certain areas mainly ground attack. Perking this.... is getting out of hand, if we can fly whatever we want then why introduce the bad bellybutton planes? Then everyone will fly them. Point being leave it as it is adjust some of the values/perk cost and it will work itself out IMO.

The point being that if you take out a good plane, you've got to be very good to return with a positive score.

I think what karnark is saying.....and what I am thinking is what is the point of having a score? I mean if anyone can fly any plane then there cant be perks required to fly any plane. If that is the case then whats the point of the whole system? I also think that you might possibly be forgetting that folks fly with different goals in mind. Some fly for score, some for number of kills, some for kill/death ratio, some for taking bases or "winning" the war and some just fly to for nothing more than dogfighting. In several of those cases folks will be flying whatever plane they feel they can do the best in.....which are under the current system assigned perks. I'm new to this game but I would think that getting rid of the system by which perks are required to fly certain planes would result in the use of just a few planes available. Again I could be misunderstanding what your proposing and way off base but I think that possibly you are considering just one style or goal of playing the game. Anyway just my two cents (and novel lol).
