Title: HELP, new version won't connect to host!!!
Post by: drewgordon on August 02, 2009, 08:47:28 AM
I already posted this in (probably the wrong board) 'hardware and software', the responses I've got that seem to be perhaps on the right track towards a solution are about 'network drivers' which unfortunately I know nothing about.

------------------

So I installed the updates, my computer's a dell XPS from last year so the graphics seem stable in the offline practice mode - although the installation has removed all my joystick button settings and the username/password from my log-in screen...
...I have those saved though, the problem is now that when I click 'online arenas', and re-enter my username/password, all I get is 'could not connect to host do wish to try the alt route?' and then 'could not connect to host' (via the alt route).
Any suggestions/advice/help would be greatly appreciated, like many on here I'm not a whizz at computers so it could be something simple, or it could be a bug with my system, which therefore probably means I'm stuck as I really know not very much about computers...
...thanks!

------------------

Why can't I connect to the host anymore, how do I fix this?

When I get that message I have to reboot my modem and irless router by unplugging them. First i shut down the computer then unplug both for 5 secs. Then I reconnect them and power up computer. Give it a try let me know what happens.

you may also have to allow ace high to connect in your antivirus software

There's no firewalls enabled, I turned my router off and on again, my friend who knows a bit about computers sent a 'ping' to the hitech server and it apparently is still sending/receiving, yet I can't connect to the host since Tuesday last week when I downloaded the new patch, this 'network driver' issue is something I don't understand and no one will explain, so it looks like I'll cancelling my subscription for a while I guess.  :frown:

We need a DXDIAG, START> RUN> DXDIAG> Save it> Post it.
Even if your firewall is down I have had incidents where it will still block programs  :(
Dont give up on the game, there is an explanation for everything, try this as well, when you get to the ACES HIGH main screen minimize the game and check how much memory the game is using, if it is less than 100% the problem may be a virus. :(

Turned it off and on or unplugged it ? Need to unplug modem and router for a bit and then plug back in to reset them. I do this about once a month.

It is a firewall issue.  Whenever we update the game, most software firewalls will require you to re-allow aceshigh.exe back through the firewall.

Your settings are not lost.  Vista has placed them is a virtual store (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,71591.msg2932059.html#msg2932059) as you have the game installed in the "Program Files" folder.

You need to get the game out of that folder.  It will cause you nothing but grief and you instantly lose about 10% of your game performance and get more stutters for having it there.  The new, full version, does not default to "Program Files" any longer.

skuzzy

to maybe save some skin on your typing fingers, you may want to put a blurb on the download page such as:

Vista OS users note: set download to.......

I think this is about the 100th post you have typed that info in
