Title: Performance vs. Player numbers?
Post by: nipper on August 05, 2009, 02:52:20 AM
Does the total number of people in an arena effect performance issues your end?
I've been running the new version pretty much fine, comparable FR to before the release with detailed graphics on and self shadowing off. However yesterday on TT this changed. FR was real bouncy but generally less than half of normal (<20) and a few other odd things happened (missing tracer trails and hit sprites to name a couple)
Could any if this be due to the total number of people in an arena or was I just having one of those occasional dodgy days?

EDIT: I also really noticed 'the stutter' yesterday when it's not really troubled me previously.

in general a base with lots going on.  CV attack, fires, lots of players etc  of course it slows up a little.

We had a very odd occurance yesterday, 5 of us all had a white Crash to desk top windows send error message, at exactly the same time.

I believe about 60 odd people had it around a5 rook  base.  When we logged back in rooks were down to 23 players and ENY was up at 20, and the dar for this field was all gone when it was previously a mass furball full dars on both sides, when they had 60 previously.  If it was an internet burp usually we have a host connection pop up.  1st time the new version has crashed for me.   :noid

I'm aware of this but my problems were happening out in the open away from furballs etc. As opposed to the number of players in the direct vicinity I was wondering if the total number of players in the arena had any bearing?

I heard people saying they had lower FRs, but I was OK - could it be the bigger map? - I think this one was new for TT

Shuffler would love that! He could get all his leisure suits back out of the attic!

I've had no problems either until yesterday. The only thing that changed for me was the number of players in the arena, or was that just a coincidence and it's something else?

Yesterday was my first day on in about a month. I had previously played the beta with no problems. Yesterday, when things were busy, frame rates occasionally dropped to the 20's. Most of the time it was in the 50+ range.

I was one of the ones at A5 of this crash. Seems everyone within a certain vicinity of the base was Discoed to the desktop. Which was nearly 100% of the Rooks, and about 40% of the Bish. Those who were just outside this barrier stayed online. Could be related to the radar ring, not sure. It was pretty close to this range for those who got the boot.

I keep them in my closet just in case. Would be fun I could get my MOJO back.

my brothers rig, (which was never great, even with 2.13) gets really weird in 2.14... He gets 40-50fps with detailed terrain off, which is perfectly playable.. the other day our squad is doing a bombing mission, and as is our want, we get everyone on the runway first.

with 5-6 sets of b17's with drones, sitting on the runway he was getting like 2-3 fps.. after climbing to about 1000 ft, his framerate goes back to 40-50, with the same amount of planes nearby..  just something weird about everyone on the runway in close proximity..

Yup.  We had the same thing happen.  Mass WSOD diconnects all
at once.
