Title: Help with gunsight
Post by: badhorse on August 05, 2009, 10:06:07 PM
I would like to use the P-51D sight in an F4U but when I do, it is very small and difficult to see.  I've tried making the lines brighter using a paint program but with very little success.  I know that the bmp file is limited in size or the sight won't work. Does anyone know how I can get this sight to appear as large as the default F4U sight?

thanks

I have the same problem. I dont think there is a way to increase the size other than putting your head position closer and zooming in on the target when you shoot.

I haven't tried this on sights before but could Gimp do it? Like just downloading the sight and then adjusting it with Gimp to be larger?

yes it can be done........yes I have made for my personal use, 3 enlarged gunbore sights for the F4U plane types I fly.....

trial & error / trial & error........ make sure you keep the gunsight.bmp file in the same resolution & same Bit state...... also if you are using the types that have a glow like feature.make sure you have both your alpha and regular .bmp files the same and accurately overlayed......

I have used MSpaint, photoshop, and paint.net to make mine.....

edit: for starters just make u a backup copy of the default gunsight  and then enlarge/redraw  but BE SURE TO NOT LOSE OR MOVE THE "CENTER" dot..... if you lose or move the center dot, then your whole convergence and aiming will be off kilt...

TC I tried but still no luck.  If I enlarged the sight (even keeping the same resolution) I just got a big white box instead of the sight.  I changed the lines on sight to white and kept it the same size.  That time I got the P51D sight in the center of the sight but the lines of the sight extend out like a big cross.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

A white box where the sight should be is usually a loading error, give it some time and it should fully load and you will see the sight. Happens when something is changed on the program. If this doesn't work post it.

I use the 51 sight in the F4U and just live with it. i always thought that if i changed the size, it may throw off the drop points for the ord.

I don't think it will throw it off just so long as you don't move the dot, just make it bigger.
