I sit in the tower, aching to be in my 109. So I hop in, and pull out of the hanger, the engine of the old gal sounding great. I wait my turn to taxi to the runway, and with the all clear I race down the runway full throttle heading for the skies. Admiring the scenery I soon find myself around 8,000 feet. Looking down I can see small farm lands, and even a few villages. That is when I see it. A beautiful cloud out there all alone, the only one in the sky. I chase it, and it seems to be running away. I follow it and I never seemed to get closer, when I notice the cloud has friends. I find myself dancing with the clouds, weaving back and forth not able to see a thing through the meadow of white. I pop out of the bottom of the heavens and see that the clouds have led me to an enemy air base. When I look around I see a single liberator with two escorts at about 5,000 feet returning home. Angered that these pigs get these heavens I hide in the clouds, them obviously unaware of my presence. That is when I make my move, and dive straight down out of the barrier of white onto the liberator, guns blazing. The number two engine bursts in flames while I return to my safe haven. The escorts scrambling around unaware of what just happened, are forced to watch the liberator catch ablaze and fall out of the sky. One of the escorts, a P-51D, climbs up through the clouds. My clouds. When he breaks through the top of the clouds I watch, and wait. Then I choose my moment and come from below, guns blazing. Half of his right wing breaks off, and black smoke trails him as his engine sputters out. He smashes through the clouds breaking apart, and all his friend sees is his wingman breaking through the clouds, and spiraling down to earth. Scared, the other P-51D ran home. As for me, I disappear back into the clouds, not to be seen again.

On my squadrons bbs, we have carried a tradition that has been around since War Birds and alt.games.warbirds website called "Toads Hall".
Basically consider that forum as a virtual world, its an old shack that is a bar at the far end of the airfield. Our members go there and basically write short stories centering around beer, and old crusty bar, and old crusty bartender (insert your squadrons mascot here, in "Toads Hall" it was a Human Sized Toad, in our bar its "Eddie" from Iron Maiden who never really says anything, but does occasionally take his 109 up).
We recount the nights memorable flights and toss in a doss of short story fiction to mesh with the backdrop of the story line that emerges in that forum.
Your story is great, and you and your squad mates might find that doing this would add a new bit of flare to your bbs and your squads esprit de corps.
Just a thought.
Gonna randomly grab one from our boards and post it below.

The scuttle butt going around is that if this squadron does not prove its air and combat worthy is 6months that we will all be reassigned to various squads.
I cant speak for most of the guys here, while I am pretty sure they feel the same, but leaving the A's & 8's is not something I would look forward to. Its been 3 weeks. We have many of the once downed A/C flying, including one Typhoon that we helped Wolf rebuild for his Fighter of choice. The LA-7 rotation has been made, and the bird has been completely rebuilt thanks to the Maint department working many hours of overtime. In spite of all the over whelming work, its home... and it feels good to be a part of it.
A hand full of ground vehicles have been repaired and ready for service as well. The CO has really taken things by the "Balls" here, heh, as many of the fuel tanks have been emptied and moved, and the Airfield has been arranged in a way to correspond with the needs of the Aircraft. We requested and received, thanks to many favors called in from many pilots here, 3 detachments of Seabees, heavy equipment and all.
The runway was extended another 50yards for the Buffs, and we now have a larger.... rearm pad, this is so that we are "safer" in our refuel and rearm. The Co has fought tooth and nail, but in the end we simple could not do it any other way. The A/C is rearmed fully prior to taking on any fuel. The motor can be running, but the pilot is not to be in the Cockpit, a pit crewman will babysit the A/C. An NCO will always be present to ensure that the utmost safety is to be used... we have had Zero incidents so far, with the exception of 1 ham and cheese sandwich and the prop of an unfortunate P-39 that we use as a trainer for Basic flight hours.
I have my F4U-1A in prime condition, and ready to roll, and have spent some time with Wolf learning the basics of level bombing.
Jon has been driving his now adopted Tiger all over the base, like his personal chariot, however the grass seems to be less of a problem now....
Tool has been practising his Intel gathering, getting info about our sister squads nearby. This will come in handy as in 2 weeks we will fly a mission as aggressors against the Brits and their Spitfires.
It will be an interesting mission indeed. As we will have a Typh, 2-F4U's, LA-7, P-38s among other things, all matching up against Spits, that are dang near off the plant floor, while we fly rebuilt handmedowns.
We are however scheduled to receive several loads of new parts, and 3 new Aircraft, while we dont know the make and model yet, they will be welcomed additions of the family, once they arrive.
Called in a favor, along with 3 cases of scotch, couple dirty mags and captured sword from some Japanese officer, and we now have 3 new crates of flight suits on the way, WB, picked them up in the C-47 4 hours ago and is due in in about 2 more hours. Be a nice surprise for the guys, as many a wearing flight suits with holes already in them, from all the Maint that we have been doing on the base and A/C.
Well its time I hit the rack, 5am comes early and I have to take the A/C to the Fire range and set convergences.

I guess I have no imagination. Never could really grasp these types of stories and surely could not write them. Maybe I'm just not as sensitive to the English language as some others.
I sit in the tower, aching ? ? ? to be in my 109. So I hop in, and pull out of the hanger, the engine of the old gal sounding great. I wait my turn to taxi to the runway, and with the all clear I race down the runway full throttle heading for the skies. Admiring the scenery I soon find myself around 8,000 feet. Here is where I get totally lost ....kinda like this guy might (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:yuJ80oIWUzxmGM:http://c.getbackimages.com/uri/w514_h800_cfalse_K0713155718/richard-karn-and-tim-allen-on-home-imprevement-/image/4/1/1/9/4119916.jpg)
It just turns into a bunch of blah blah blah and i lose interest, heheh
A beautiful cloud out there all alone, the only one in the sky. I chase it, and it seems to be running away. I follow it and I never seemed to get closer, when I notice BlahhhhhhhhhhhBlahhhhhhhhhhBlahhhhhhhh....brain is mellllltttting ...the cloud has friends. I find myself dancing with the clouds, and i'm through

LOL. Same type of thing happened to me (I was a B26) and my P40 escort except minus the clouds and I only had 1 escort. The damn thing just kept flying in a straigt line even after the second pass. Lucky it was only a P-51B attacking. Took 3 passes to kill me.

As you all may have noticed, it was 3 in the morning when I wrote this (eastern time).
I like it though, and I think it is one of my better peaces. When this really happened though I was in a corsair and not a 109, but I said 109 to add to the immersion.
Also I only managed to shoot down the 24 and vulch him 2 more times. But this story sounds like something an old pilot that is not in it for the fight would sound like.

awhhhh mannnnn, why else would you be in it for? it's all about the fight...win or lose ( hopefully win ) but still
keep at it..as someone mentioned before, you should keep a journal of your writings like this .then people can look back on them years down the road.....

Nice
DrDea's AAR after a squad night in the DA is still my favorite/funniest one I've ever read.
It'd be cool if guys did stuff like this more often. Maybe have a sticky titled "AARs"

I liked you story, Clone, the changes really sounded likely. At least for me; when I fly P-51, I don't runstang unless I am completly and totally owned.
