Title: Isolated bases???
Post by: BigKev03 on August 08, 2009, 11:51:24 AM
We've all seen it.  We go to bed and the next morning when we log on we see that the other side has a base way in our rear.  You know that lone airfiiedl one to two sector behind the front line (so to speak).  So what do we do?  We all gang up to take it back.  what do they do?  they all gang up to defend it.  what gets me is that the base still gets the resupply convoy as normal.  Would it be to much to ask as far as the programming to reflect the affect of being isolated??  I mean the base could have a reduced rate of repair.  I.E., it take slonger for hangars, ord, VH, and town to pop back up due to the isolation?  Just a thought but it would refelct the signifigance of the base being to far in enemy lines.

Feel free to bash, LOL

Or how about linked base capture? :t

Yup. And it didn't work too well. The main problem was that some of the capture routes were totally nonsensical, or you had one-way lines of advance, etc.

I think it is a good idea Kev. +10 trillion. That always kinda pissed me off how I would down hangers and bang they are up even though they would be out of sheet metal for the hangers.

Hangers come up in 10 minutes... No matter what.

Resupply is for everything except hangers.  Ammo, fuel, AAA, and radar.

IIRC, if there is no friendly strats for that base in the sector then the base just sloooowly regenerates on its own.

Are you asking that the hangers just don't come back up, at all?

Afraid of a fight?

Not at all. I just think that after destroying a set of hanger 10 times, a base with no way to be re supplied except by air would run out of sheet metal for the hangers. Kinda annoying.

Down time used to be longer.  It's a game play enhancement.  The hangers come back so you can play the game.

You can make the same point about convoys not affecting hangar rebuild times.  It makes no sense whatsoever, but boy would the game suck if destroying those trucks prevented the hangars from respawning.

As for linked base capture, I think the positives far outweigh the negatives.  I understand that not everyone feels the same way.

Could some one extend on the linked base capture thing? I think I wasn't arround to know what it is.

<S>

And while I know it is a playability issue, could you at least EXTEND the down time, not leave it shortened? And I mean extend it to 1/2 hr or more if you think it needs it.

To capture base A, you first had to capture base B. Base A could then be used to capture Bases C, D and E, with the number of capturable bases varying. The base capture paths were permanently fixed, so it was the same for every country.

This means if Nits were pushing into Bish Land and captured a V base at the end of a one-way link, then to recapture that base the Bish had to follow the EXACT same line of capture even if they had an airfield 5 miles away.

While a novel idea, it wasn't very well-executed and heavily flawed. CVs were almost useless since they had no effect on the base capture order.

What would have worked better was that ALL adjacent bases would be capturable, to eliminate the unintuitive one-way captures.

Thanks Saxman, I agree that is was flawed...it SOUNDS flawed.

Yep. 15 minutes for hangers.

Who has the zone base?  A base with no zone base to resupply it still gets the convoy however that convoy is lacking supplies.  The routes are coded separately from the math that stocks supply trucks.

If the zone base is owned by the enemy, then that base still gets it's supplies.

what gets me is that the base still gets the resupply convoy as normal.  Would it be to much to ask as far as the programming to reflect the affect of being isolated??  I mean the base could have a reduced rate of repair.

Would it suck?   or would it add something new to game. A reason for attack planes? A new place to fight... anew way to take bases.
