I was flying along near the nme base and came across some realistic looking clouds. I was impressed with how they actually concealed the red guys pretty well. Usually I can spot a con well out of icon range, but not through these clouds. They did not flicker or appear 2D at all. Of course while admiring this I lost my SA (briefly) and got cought up in a pretty rough fight in the clouds. I think I was affected by vertigo, if that is the right term for it. I lost my sense of up and down. I was flying opposite of what I thought I was doing only a few seconds into the fight. I actually had to look at the gauges to get right. To me that is a welcome change to the perpetual clear blue sky. I would actually like to see how people fight in a mild cross wind now that I have finally experienced PERFECT clouds. :x

Yep I found myself in a really cool looking cloud bank. It was quite impressive.

have clouds changed with the recent update? seem to be a bit more realistic (ie thicker).
nothing beats flying through intermittent cloud for immersion :aok
-
I'm liking the fact that they move... :O

They have not changed. They still have the jagged look against mountains. They still don't have the optical properties of real clouds except for being white.

So these clouds - are they synchronized to everyones view : that is - does everyone see exactly the same shaped cloud in exactly the same position at exactly the same time??
The converse is the problem - if not synchro'd then you may think you are hidden inside a cloud but the enemy sees you outside it. Kinda like the "king has no clothes".
Another sim tryed this and had to drop them because they found it impossible to assure synchronization.
cheers eh!
***edit - i'm speaking about the stand alone clouds - not the 15k ceiling blanket cloud.
-
1. They are not new.
2. Yes they are synchronized.
3. They have been synchronized for a so many years I can not remember when I wrote it.
4. The jagged edge you speak of is when the cloud layer goes threw a mountain and is a z fighting issue I have no way of really fixing.

thanx for the quick reply HiTech re: synchro - - I guess this is why here is SO much better than that OTHER place. Worlds ahead of em. :aok
cheers eh!

Wow, you guys are harsh. The spelling wasn't even that bad.

Its tradition and Hitech is a good sport. :aok

Who the heck flys high enough to actually be IN the clouds? If I hit 15k my equilibrium would surely be off.
-
Hard to remember since I was last kicked out but SAPP rules used to strictly dictate that you should fly no lower than 10k, 15k if you could help it. Of course the punishments were severe if you were caught breaking this commandment.

Sometimes their at 10k and once in a while you get a to the deck fog bank...very very cool.

The fog bank is very cool, especially if you use it to ambush other planes. At least in the MW when Baltic is up, there is usually a very thick fog bank over P36 where you can just disappear in and it's very hard to see the other guy even if they are at close range. When we were in control of the port, I was the lone fighter defending it and I'd fly in the fog bank, just high enough in it that I could see a little bit of sky and any plane coming. When they'd get in icon range, I would dip back slightly in the fog bank and as they got within range to engage, I would fly out of the fog bank and make my attack and then dive back in the fog after the kill, repeating until fellow Knights were able to up the port in GVs and landed once enough Knight fighter arrived to help setup a DEFCAP.

They have fog banks at 20K+? :devil
