So I was bored and stressed and this is what I got out of an E8600 on air. THIS IS NOT A 24/7 overclock, but a see how high it would go. Notice the voltages (DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS) tossed at the CPU. YIKES

What motherboard are you using there? I didn't realize there was a chipset supporting Socket 775 processors and DDR3

Yes there are many boards out there using 775 and DDR3 dual channel memory. The EVGA 790i Ultra is the one this was done on. The GA-EP45T-UD3P is another (very hard to find MB now) but there are quite a few. Some are not worth even looking at and some are.

WOW :O Did It damage anything? How long did ya hold it?
I seriously considered buying a 790i FTW/E8600 combo awhile back... You said it was a good one, But Damn :rofl
Was looking at them again, prices have gone down a bit... But some of the 790i models just aren't there anymore... :(
Still plan on doing that, but just dropped a bunch of cash on a new HOTAS, so It will be a little while...
And now there is the i7/W7 thing to think about too...
Gets confusing, :uhoh
