Title: changing video cards
Post by: danny37 on August 14, 2009, 01:25:39 PM: i recently upgraded my video card and psu,awesome. i went from the nvidia 8300gs to the pny 9800gt and ocz 500w psu.
but i found a quick and easy tool to help with the uninstall of the old drivers to redeuce having problems after installing the
new drivers and its free.i strongly recomend using this to save you some potentional problems if you upgrade your vid card or just upgrade drivers. :salute

Post by: Denholm on August 14, 2009, 04:21:35 PM: I personally use Driver Cleaner Pro. However, I believe I have used driver sweeper. Both seem to get the job done. I prefer uninstalling the video card drivers using the designated uninstaller before running the driver cleaner utility. That way if there were any shortcuts or stray registry entries created they will be removed accordingly.

Post by: gyrene81 on August 14, 2009, 07:12:28 PM: It's those "stray" registry entries that Driver Cleaner and Driver Sweeper are supposed to get rid of...otherwise the "uninstall" option for the drivers would be enough.

of course,driver sweeper does not uninstall the drivers,duh,it cleans up whats left over that the uninstaller leaves behind that causes problems with the new drivers.i dont believe i stated that it uninstalls drivers but that it helps to redeuce having problems after installing the new drivers.i dont care how or what you use to uninstall any driver or programs for that matter 9 outta 10 times there is useless stuff left behind that the uninstaller misses and can cause problems.another helpful thing to do when upgrading drivers or whatever is to do a disk defrag,i have found this to be very helpful as well.also running the driver cleaner or driver sweeper before you uninstall the old drivers would be useless.maybe you misunderstood my post. :rolleyes:

Yes, I am fully aware that uninstallers will not remove everything which was installed.
