Kurt Tank called his FW190 "Würger", after the bird. In english, this bird is called shrike, and there is another one, which is not related to the shrike, but hunts in the same way, the butcherbird.
There is no intention of having a relation to slaughtering, butchering or whatever, and most and above all, "Metzger Bird" sound so absolutely awkward.... :O
I am usually not nitpicky about stuff like that, but as I read that, my ears and eyes were bleeding.

I never knew that Wurger meant Shrike. Ironically enough, I read a book called "Hyperion" (hence my ingame name), and there was the creature called The Shrike. It is human in feature, has two legs and four arms. It is all metal. It has spikes, saws, thorns, and many other sharp objects that make up this beast. It can travel through time and is believed to be sent back in time from humans in the far distant future.

Kurt Tank was a boderline genius.
His airplane was a great success story. And not just in design and operation but also production.
This was news to me. And I have studied up a bit on this man. Good post.

It should actually be "Metzgervogel"...pronounced "metz-gah-foh-gell"...or something like that.

Fixed.
Like every other aircraft designer, Tank borrowed from others. According to Tank, one of his biggest inspirations was Palmer's H-1 (Hughes H-1).

No one designs in a vacuum. Everyone borrows from those who came before them.
