Title: scratching head lately after latest patches
Post by: Matrix on August 16, 2009, 05:53:57 PM
today an LVT was spotted on my Vbase so I up and shoot him clean broadside D400.  NOTHING happens he keeps on truckin, stops lets troops out,  i hit him again only to take his left track out,  Shooting at troops none die (wierd)  so I shoot LVT again he dies,  base is captured and I'm thinking WTF is going on.  Never should have lived after first shot.

Well at least I'm not the only one...

But honestly I spray 20mm into LVT's all the time, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you waste a lot of ammo. It's not a glitch, it's just superior ground vehicle armor.

Its the same with the M3's some say youre tank round goes completely through it. Thats a crock even if it did how can that not kill a handfull of troops. I tiger hitting an M3 and knocking a track off ?? i doubt it an 88mm round hitting something with 1/2 inch plateing would make it an upside down flameing chunk of sheetmetal. its the nature of the beast i guess. Its kind of stupid if you ask me but who's askin. The patch is all pretty and has the graphics everyone drools over but the basic gameyness hasnt gone away. The DB lanc stukas being just one.I guess thats to much work to correct.

The bigger question....

Why didn't you shoot the troops?

1. were you using HE or AP?

2. what kind of vehicle were you using?

3. dont feel bad m3's are tougher than panzers

oh,  LOL  ...................i was in a sherman using AP.  after first shot on LVT i did start shooting at troops with pintle gun, seeing only a few trps and lvt moving forward i shot lvt again then started shooting at remaining trps when they appeared.
The bigger question....

Why didn't you shoot the troops?

well if you read my post i did shoot at troops.  before the LVT ever started dropping troops I hit him once,  then as he let some troops out I started shooting at them.

Hmm i've been there before, try aiming at the rear panel on the m3 and lvt 3/4 of the way up the side.  For some reason that seems to be the killzone.

If you want I can add pictures of killzones on them  :P

Belial thanks, but i've been playing this game long enough to know where to hit a vehicle.  Just sometimes the sweet spot ain't so sweet and they survive, what should be, the  "unsurvivable" hit

As Belial intimated, "AP" = armor piercing.....round goes right thru the thin metal, doesn't explode. Get anywhere NEAR with HE...no more LVT. (Same thing happens vulching IL2's with Tiger)

Just a bit of real worldness: During Desert Storm a T-72 fired a 125mm SABOT at a Bradley. it went through the troop compartment and scared the bejesus out of everyone, but did not do anything else. That is why we carry DU SABOT and HEAT on M1's - some ammo is great for some things and not worth much for others. I just thought of that while reading this post and though I would share  :salute

Yeah, AP rounds do just run through light armor pretty easily...HE is preferred for light armor...hell a MaDeuce with AP ammo will just turn it into swiss cheese going in and exiting with no bouncing around inside the compartment.

I have had a similar thing happen with an LVT long before any of the new terrains. Must have nailed the guy from 20 feet away a dozen or more times. Pm'd him & he was just as surprised as me as to why he didn't go boom. I would say just one of those things that happens from time to time.

An opposite anecdote.. I've landed HE rounds just below the front of the LVTs and had them die instantly.  Seems pretty reliable from the small sample I've seen myself.

yeah I spent time with armor units and as said REAL WORLD,  AP would go thru.  Just not always the case in the AH WORLD sometimes.   Who knows,.................i think we all have had the weirdness from time to time.  Moot,  i never know when to film or not ya know?  I don't expect the unexpected and by the time it occurs it's too late to roll film.  Especially with that LVT,  hell saw him crawling across VBase thought noprob i'll up a sherman and pop him quick like.  LOL  never did it occur to me he would survive my shots, drop troops and capture the base............I'm an IDIOT.....{sigh}  anyways makes for a good laugh!

There is an option to auto-film every sortie, extremely useful from my own experience.

HEATs been around for a long time. FSAPDS, or SABOT is now made of DU, whereas in my time it was made of a tungsten alloy. Muzzle velocity is still about a mile a second for the SABOT. Two of the rounds that was a lot of fun to fire was the old BEEHIVE and WP.  Made tankin' fun!  :D

A mile a second has to be a cool sight.

Matrix - Like Airflyer says, you can just film everything and type in something peculiar about what happened in that film, for later reference.  Or just type "delete" and save that.  You'll always have only one film like that one to delete, as AH overwrites same-name films.  And when you watch films in slow motion, things will get much clearer.  It doesn't take much difference in what you do, to go from ineffective hits to 1-shot kills.
