Title: Normal Ocean
Post by: TheAce on August 17, 2009, 05:40:59 PM
Right now it seems that we have purple water...I cant tell the water from the sky right now which is making it impossible to fly low level and chase an enemy. Just something they screwed up on when developing the new version.

Nice scientific objective approach.....

I am sure telling them they screwed up will get you a long way too.

I don't think thew screwed up. I think it looks great, depth perception is thrown off a bit but we ll get used to it I have no problems with sea and sky looking the same, unless where the sun glare is

Word.....  There are some depth issues, some weird things were noticed in FSO in fact......  But I'm in MA Blue, over water, as I type....  Looks just fine.

Maybe your color is off?  Gamma?

Some video setting on your card?

Can you post a screenshot? I've never seen what you describe.

It doesn't matter if they change it. It will never look like the real ocean.

You've got some computer issues if that's what you're seeing. Are you running the water in high or low detail?

It looks like its not even being drawn?

Il-2 looks pretty darn close.  I'd love to see ocean like this in AH, and you can eyeball your altitude over it much more easily than what we have now.

The water we have now is an improvement over the past, but the lines you can see going across it, caused by repeating tiles, could be improved on.

IMO the IL2 water has always looked too shiny and out of scale. Essentially
completely bogus.  AH's water is much more realistic looking - least from
some sort of altitude.

The problem shown in the screen shots posted say to me that someone is
using a system that can barely provide use-able graphics to play with.

I beg your pardon.  I wouldn't call a 9600GT barely usable.  It's not top of the line, of course, but it runs AH very well. :)

We'll have to disagree 100% on which sim has better looking water. :P

-------

Edit: but the water in AH does look great under moonlight, which I noticed during Coral Sea.

Your screen shots have no issues. Those posted by TheAce is what I was referring to.
"My bad" for not being clear. but if he has a 9600GT then imo he has some serious
system issues imo.

Ahhh, ok.  :aok  I'm the one with the 9600.

I see a lot of variance in posted screenshots of AH.  For example, look at the screen shots for the recent frame 2 in the fso forum.  One looks neon, while Stoney's pic looks beautiful.

Well there's your problem. You are in a Spit, not a F4U. Spits love the water, while F4Us and their hover flaps are hydrophobic.

I've found that I have problems too with gauging the distance, but my solution is to fly planes that I know to the nth degree if I'm going to be flying out over water. That way, I know how far to pull the stick to get my desired result, and when trying to turn with that Spit16 OTD at 300ish with two notches of flaps, I know I won't pull into a snap roll. (Doh!)
