Well I thought I had gotten my computer sorted and was running the latest AH version fairly well but last night in orange I was faced with the same old problems. I was experiencing a good amount of lag and stuttering with or without the new details on. There was a slight improvement when I turned the details off but not enough to be playable. Getting into fights I would stutter with every move and almost freeze every time I turned the guns on. When I first enter an arena my variance is very jagged and the game lags very bad for 60-90 seconds.
Things I’ve tried so far:
*download and run registry cleaner. Have been running it every day since to make sure things are as they should be.
*run AH2 in window 98/ME compatibility mode
*removed the omega drivers and installed the latest nvida driver for the 8600
*changed settings from 1024 to 512. Was able to run the last version at 1024 with no problems. No noticable improvement.
*complete reinstall of AH2 (this fixed the WSOD when accessing the video settings on the main page)
*turned off the details completely and still experienced frame rate drop and stuttering.
I’m open to any ideas or suggestions. Thank you in advance…

Run the game in XP mode. Based on something I just read the game now needs to run in regular compatibility mode not 98/ME compatibility mode.
On a side-note, did you uninstall the previous drivers (including using software such as DriverSweeper) before installing the new drivers?
-
How many background processes are running on that computer? Your page file usage is huge.

I was running it in XP mode but was having the spinning knee board problem. Skuzzy suggested I run it in 98/ME and it cleared that issue up. Will look into DriverSweeper. I know I manually removed the drivers the last time to make sure they were gone though...

About a year ago I went to BlackVipers website and followed his instructions for making a gaming profile. I think I’m running 29-32 processes in that profile.
-
Something is really wrong here. You have 1/2 a GByte of page file used. Something huge is running on your computer.
It should be around 140MB.
-
Were you running it in XP mode during the recent patches? The reason I'm asking is because of the following update information:
Version 2.14 Patch 6 Changes
======================
Implemented a fix for AMD dual-core users that no longer requires the AMD dual core optimizer to be installed or the game to be run in Windows 98/ME compatibility mode. If you are running the game in compatibility mode, we strongly suggest disabling that.

hmmmmm... let me get home and make sure I'm not running some x-large program then run another dxdiag just to be sure. If it is the same could this be a symptom of a trojan or virus? I have avg, spybot, avg rootkit and malewarebytes anti malware installed. I have run it all and it has come up clean. Is there something else I could do to find what it is?

Do you disable the active memory resident portions of any of those apps before you jump in the game? I know Spybot and Malwarebytes have some background processes that are huge even when the programs are closed. (that's why I have a 400+ meg paging file)
I'm using the IOBit game booster and disabling my antivirus program before jumping into the game...haven't had anything other than a few minor annoyances here and there.
-
I turn off spybot before starting up AH and I usually leave avgrootkit/anti-malware off all the time until I run a scan. I'm not real sure about how to turn em off anymore than they already are. I've never heard of IOBit gamebooster
I am running trackIR 5 and ventrilo with AH. Pre update version had no problems running these, have there been any issues with the new version? Maybe one of these programs isnt playing nice with AH...
-
AVG Anti-Rootkit Free doesn't run in the background. When you close it any processes associated with it are closed. Spybot will run TeaTimer.exe. You can easily end that from the Task Manager. The only other one I'm concerned about is AVG itself. That's probably what is loading up your paging file.
-
I read about the tea timer in previous posts and made sure to disable it when I first downloaded it. I was under the impression that avg was a small program... would it be any help to take a screenshot of my processes and post it here?
-
Yeah Jappa that would help...here's something else you can install to see what's running:
Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx)
It gives a full read out of whats running even the stuff that is masked as svchost.exe (which could be multiple processes).
-
Just downloaded that for my vista laptop. It's a pretty cool little program. I need to fiddle with it a bit to figure out exactly what I am looking at but it should help a lot. I will post a SS of my process when I get home. Hopefully I can resolve this without using the sledge (like i really want to right now).... Thanks again for all the help.

I'm looking into that DriverSweeper software right now...
This is what it lookls like when I first enter the game:
seems I was off by a few. I actually have 39 processes running on the "gaming" profile:

Another DXDIAG for good measure.

AVG is nowhere near a small program, I used to have it and it would take up about 30 CPU... idle. It is also a bit invasive, try Kaspersky. Make sure your firewall is allowing the game as well. Umm, I am currently using a form of Kaspersky and it works great, takes up very little RAM and CPU and is not invasive at all: also has large virus bank.
Rootkits.... (ughhh) Not fun at all if they are made right.
-
Ok starting from the top:
System is taking 74MB of memory when it should be around 240KB
ituneshelper
ntuneservice
ehrecvr (Windows Media Center service)
ipodservice
PunkbusterA&B <--Can't dump that if you have a game that uses Punkbuster but you can stop the processes.
arservice (Windows Media Center service)
Runservice (eLicense licensing system incorporated with common software and games) <---need to find out what installed this.
avgwdsvc (avg anti-virus service)
avgtray.exe
Googletoolbarnotifier
avgrsx.ext
Some red flags there...
-
Google Toolbar notifier is useless and is a waste of space, I would suggest deleting all of those red programs if they are not ABSOLUTELY needed and then defragment your PC. Get rid of AVG and immediately replace with another anti-virus. Kaspersky is the one i use but there are others. I believe there are about 2-3 anti-virus threads in here, maybe more, check em out sometime.
