Title: not actually a wish but a "maybe interessting aspect"
Post by: SirFrancis on August 18, 2009, 04:54:48 PM
I came up with this idea after I flew B24 to a V-field for killing the VH. I was flying at 14000 feet and as I approached the field, there was a cloud layer. Looking through the bomb sight I only could the clouds and not the field. There was no way in bombing the field, īcause I coudnīt see anything. I canīt remember if it was the same before update, but its looks very realistic. So, it would have been nice, if some kind of reconnaissance  was possible before I start my bombers. So maybe asking on country channel "how is the weather (ie clouds) over V35?" when you see some1 is flying around V35.

So, I sat down with my Paint-program and came up with this result:

(http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/8849/fogahii.jpg) (http://img30.imageshack.us/i/fogahii.jpg/)

Planes could have a 6k circle around them, and the not black area behind the plane could vanish after a few minutes.

What do you think? Possible?   :) Realistic?  :aok Stupid idea?  :huh or whatsoever.... :furious

Regards

That's the argument the Catalina crew uses!

Some people are going to "search" your butt.........  But....

I haven't seen it displayed so nicely!!!  Great Job!

You and your fancy paint program, making everything so nice and neat, stop having good ideas!  :aok

have you tried lowering your gamma setting? so you wont need recon?

nub001,
thats not what my idea was. I donīt want to fly in darkness. I just thought that it could be kind off a neat feature, that the map is black in those zones/areas, were no planes, CV and gv from our own team are around. Meaning, if you want to know if there are high mountains or other aspects that are relevant for preparing a mission, some kind of recon should happen before mission starts. This even includes to recon the cloud layer or thickness. Meaning, if you canīt see through the clouds, you donīt need to up buffs and let them fly at 14k 30 min long.

This will affect mission planing and makes it more tougher to attack enemy field. This could also mean, that a new kind of recon planes will brought to AHII...like the mentioned Catalina.  :aok

So, on the other hand, there has to be players ready to take down the recon planes.

In the short or middle run this idea might only be implemented in special event arenas, not in the main EW, MW or LW arenas.  I can understand that, as there are different groups of players who like it realistic as it can be, those who like teamwork to take enemy bases and those, of course, who only are interested in dogfights. For this group my idea will be not relevant.

@Strip
you are right. But you can not exclude that there will be new maps in the future.

@TheAce
I try my best, that my next idea is crappy and a pile of BS  :D

@LLogann

Thx!

(sry but my English is not that good. Hope I could make my point)

This sounds like good idea, but here's the twist...

Since the maps are well known, and they had full maps back then and knew where everything was anyway, your idea could add the visibility factor to the map.  Instead of having the map black and only seeing the terrain within a countryman's "field of view", the whole map would show (maybe darkened a little) and the cloud cover in that area would be shown.  This way you can see what the visibility (i.e. weather) is like "over there".

A weather depection chart that shows a graphical representation of what weather files are loaded for the arena wouldn't be the worst idea ever pitched.

The little Circles on this chart represent the sky, the more filled they are the more clouds there are.

First... I like the idea.  But rather than having that information available to you right on the map, in real time... (which wasnt available in ww2), you could have the ability to get that information yourself by checking the field status... like this:

(http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l273/woosle_2006/WeatherData.jpg)

That way... the reports are only updated every 1/2 hour (or at some other predetermined interval) and its up to the pilot to check his weather forecast.  That way, if he gets to the target, and he is flying too high to see through the cloud layer... its his own fault.

A real stickler would make that info only available to someone while they are on the ground.  Making it important to check that BEFORE you leave on your bombing mission.  Although if that were the case, you could always have a teammate check it and radio you the info, but again... its on you to do that.

As a separate weather map with that same fog of war, maybe.

That would be neat way! :aok

I also like the idea from Golfer.

I know that there are some folks who would like to have rain, strong winds etc. But since we already have some cool cloud layers we should use them. And implementing something golfer, AKP, IamADot  or moot suggested would go in that direction I am thing of, knowing that my drawing in the OP might be a little too difficult to transfer in the game.
