Title: Weird in-game sound issue
Post by: Blue29 on August 22, 2009, 02:51:44 AM
Hey guys, I recently got my internet back online again and I downloaded the new patch today, but it somehow messed with some sounds. The engine and the stall sounds aren't working anymore...and it's kinda hard trying to fly without them. I didn't change any of the sounds, but the only thing I did different was installing the latest patch. Anyone else have this problem?

Did you check the sound panel in Aces High itself?

Yeah, everything looks normal. It shows that their volume level is at 80%...same as the others.

Custom sounds?

If so, delete them and use default sounds.

No, I'm just using default.

Check to make sure that your computer has recognized the sound devices, check sound driver.

The sound driver is up to date. I'm not sure what's wrong, but it's aggravating...

I think I'm going to completely reinstall it and see if it helps. Is there any way that I can save my controls?

Yeah just copy your settings folder to another location...then when you're done with the reinstall and have started the game up once...close it and copy that settings directory back into the Aces High folder.

Well, I don't mean to post back to back, but reinstalling the game didn't work. =(

Well, at least you know it isn't a problem with AH.

Could you post a Dxdiag?

You also didn't mention how you move the sounds from your computer to your ear (ie headphones or speakers and if they are regular audio plugs or USB related), could you also post this information?

Thanks!

Sorry for it being long, but I didn't know which part you needed to see. This isn't all of it either.

I tried both speakers and headphones, and both are regular audio plugs.

It is odd that it started to mess up right after the update. I was playing it offline the same day on the older version before I installed it and it played ok.

Your video card is borrowing about a third of your machines ram, on top of that the rest of the ram is working to run the game and vista. Then you throw in an onboard sound. I think your system might just be a bit over worked. What in game settings are you using? Texture size, and so on.

Try turning down the in game eye candy. Turn off the shadows and all the extras, as well as dropping the texture size down. Then try it again to see if your sound comes back.

It would not hurt to update those RealTek drivers.  They had a ton of issues with those early Vista drivers.

Well, I was messin' around with the sound settings and all of the sudden it works now. I couldn't tell you what all I did that made it work...but it works! I just reset every sound default that I could find. Now, I can hear when my engine goes out during flight. =)

Thanks for the help and input guys!

FYI - I had to change my call sign in the game...it's now BlueJ29.

None...other than Firefox and the background programs that are always running.

Shouldn't be that high Blue...if you haven't turned off all the eye candy built into Vista do so...it just hogs resources needlessly.

If you can turn off the memory resident portion of your anti-virus while gaming do that too.

Might also help to turn off the automatic updates and your firewall before you start up AH...paging file usage will go down.
