Title: bucket list...top 10
Post by: JB88 on August 23, 2009, 09:11:02 PM
1. to spend a year in a foreign country photographing a world different than my own and sharing that work with others.
2. to have a daughter.
3. to write a novel. (just to experience what that is like)
4. to have a major show of my work.
5. to teach a year of foundations courses at my alma mater.
6. to reach economic growth followed by stability.
7. to marry my love.
8. to visit machu piccu and say "nice to meet you machu piccu".
9. censored.
10.to continue to live my life as an artist.  (better said, to enjoy what i do for a living and make a good living at what i do.)

just off the top of my head.  revisions probable.

what's your top 10 on your bucket list?

what do you want to do on this earth?

In no particular order, I want...

1. to go back to England and see something besides Preston.
2. to go across the Rhine and see where Germanicus fought.
3. to finish my trilogy, even though < 50 people will ever read it.
4. to get some sort of degree, so "high school dropout" will no longer be derogatory (working hard on this one).
5. to fight a tarpon for a good long while, win or lose.
6. to own my own property that I earned and did not inherit.
7. to make a very short < 5 minute film with my own hand-drawn animation.
8. to recondition a Purple '93 Taurus with skull-and-crossbone front license plate, flashing purple neon lights, and broken muffler.
9. to then immediately give that car to Barker and see the look on the cops' faces.
10.to one day understand.

1. Go to college
2. Marines
3. Get somewhere with my guitar and band.
4. Since 3 is a long shot, get a good, honest job, doing something I love.
5. Get married
6. Kids
7. Grandkids
8. Die peacefully.

Don't really think 8 could be on the list, since THAT would in itself be the bucket.

1) Make it past High School graduation with my sanity intact.
2) Have a good college fund and savings, as in, more than $20,000 in each.
3) I want to somehow get my girlfriend's dad to not attempt to break my arm when I propose to his little girl, once we are of a good age. (He
was a frickin' body builder, okay? He still has most of that muscle, and it is difficult to not be intimidated by those guns!)
4) Somehow make it past 40 with my health still intact. I refuse to become a diabetic like both of my folks.
5) Get a job.
6) Attend my uncle's funeral after he has been shot climbing out a 30 year old woman's window by her husband. (That is actually how he wants
    to die. Crazy old coot.)
7) Figure out what else I would like to do with my life.

While many biogerontologists (scientists who study aging) find SENS "worthy of discussion", some contend that de Grey's programme is too speculative given current scientific research, referring to it as "fantasy rather than science", and the product of "extreme arrogance".

Taking the importance of the self to new extremes of arrogance.

How can anyone feel that they are so important that they deserve to live indefinitely? Young men and women are out in the middle east right now having their lives blown away by warfare mostly due to the rapidly growing population of our planet. And we are only living longer nowadays and growing in population even as mortals. Those young soldiers....lost lives...so unimportant to the person who thinks they are important enough to live vastly longer than nature intended.

You are just nature no matter how much you wish not to be, and you have intentions regularly. So the answer is of course, yes.

new term - mootism

the act of using other people theories to describe in one word the writtings of another.
That's correct in principle, except that you're late by quite a while - there's already a couple of words coined for this, e.g. "gist".  Your argument quoted above is a form of luddism.  It's also nonsensical in arguing that some parts of nature are more natural than others.  viz. saying it's unnatural for something that nature allows, to happen.  Man is a natural thing.  What man does is therefore nothing else than natural. Nothing that happens in the universe is unnatural, or else it wouldn't happen. The insistence that we mustn't live beyond our present age is nonsensical in a number of ways, first in pretending that there's some obligation that we should die sooner than later, second that it's inherently arrogant to want to live longer and healthier.  It's an opposition to technological and general human progress, for the sake of it (or for some circular justification).  It's luddism.

I suggest you start a new thread to not derail this one.

I don't have a bucket list. I've already got a wonderful husband, wonderful kids, and I go to work every day serving people that I respect and admire.  Everything else is just extra. :)

Perhaps it would be nice to have a yard of soft grass that I could walk on without either burning or cutting bare feet.  Other than that, I'm set. :)
