I did a couple of searches on this subject and came up empty.
Correct me if I am wrong but, in times past wasn't there a noticeable difference when your plane viered off the concrete runway?
Now you can just land anywhere as long as you end up on concrete. Took away from the realism in my opinion.
What do you think?

Always have been able to land on concrete at a air base and get a successfully land....
You used to be able to land at strat factories and land on concrete cant do that anymore.

I never understood why it had to be on concrete. Would it be unfair to allow landings to count if you are on the grass. It drives me :x

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in AHI, wasn't the grass rough when you went off the runway? Btw, I miss the 300mph power slide belly landings we used to be able to do. :aok

ya.
grasscan cause an unbievable amount of drag on your aircraft.
in r/l i've only landed on grass strips a few times, but it is definitly different.
i didn't know that difference used to be modeled here though......

Landing? What's that??
-
Yep. Open country isn't bumpy as it used to be back in beta. You can land anywhere with the ground being as manageable as the best grass strips in the world... Flat as golf greens.

I agree Forker. Landing alive is what should give you a succesful landing. Who cares grass or concrete . Get the emergency crash crew to tow the heap to the tarmac if it's that important :x I am alive and in one peace in my mind that is succesful :rock

I believe the higher ups have said that forcing you to be on concrete to get a "you have landed successfully" is to put a bit of challenge into the process. It feels pretty good when you can limp a severely damaged aircraft home and manage to keep her on the runway.
One of my more memorable flights was limping a -4 with no elevators away from the enemy, over a mountain, and down to the field for a successful landing (I had to use a lot of flaps and throttle to get her to do what I wanted). If I could just land anywhere close, it wouldn't be the same.
Of course you don't need the landed message to consider it a success in your own mind, and that is, after all, what matters.

Do you remember when you could get a successful landing ... at an enemy field ? (it had to be on concrete too)
I landed many a kill at an enemy field while the fight was going on ... that was a blast.

HT (vulching ~2001, over range vox): Will I land on their field?
..
HT: I think I will. (lands vulches on same field)
