I know I've asked this before and I believe the answer was to the affirmative but in the last 4 patches I haven't seen it actually happening and I've tried the game on 3 different systems with 3 different grades of video cards up to patch 6. (the lowest grade system is now running Linux)
Stuttering on the system with the Nvidia 9500GT was exactly the same with the Nvidia 7300GT. Frame rates vary and so does the amount of video memory, which if all the detail settings are the same shouldn't the video memory usage also be the same?
In 2.13 the textures, skins, terrains and object opitimzation occurred before ever logging into the online arenas with specific check boxes available to "preload" textures and skins. It the setup for all of it was in the main page graphic settings:

It was very effective and there were very few glitches...no stuttering (at least on either of my systems)...and nearly 126MB of video memory used with 1024 textures and the hires pack. Now with patch 8 the 2 graphics cards I've tried it on don't use more than 89MB of video memory even with the 1024 textures and hires pack.
Now none of those options exist and I believe it was stated that the skins, textures and terrains do preload into memory with AH v2.14...but they don't appear to be doing so in an efficient manner.
Is it possible with the higher quality graphics to redirect the existing graphics detail selections to the same menu and have it all preload into memory before the game goes into the arena list menu as it did in 2.13? The old system of preloading appeared to work very well...maybe I'm just over thinking it and maybe it wouldn't work.
Anyone with any idea on how the game is directing stuff into memory and whether or no there might be a better way to load the textures? An answer from someone at HTC with direct knowledge would be helpful.

OK so a an uninstall of the game and clean reinstall with the patch 8 download got the slow stutter down a bit. Then an uninstall and clean install of the latest Nvidia drivers for the 9500GT has me almost back to patch 6 performance. In tower frame rates drop to <30 then after 30 seconds back to 74. On the runway 77 down to 74. In the air there is a noticeable slow rendering of textures as the horizon builds. Memory used does not exceed 90MB regardless.
