"Create Shadow Failed with -3"(in orange text inside text buffer)
Problem: When I spawn on the runway, I sometimes receive this message and my shadow is no longer present. I think the message only appears once and my shadow does not return, even after +10 sorties. This error has occurred since the option for shadows was made. Plane I usually fly with is the ki61.
When I restart Aces High, my shadow will return. The problem will reoccur after what seems to be a random number of sorties.

lower the smotheness of the shadow bro and it goes away. i had this same issue once i lowered the shadow smothness it went away :aok
-
I was getting a -8 but kower then the 8 looked all jaggy so turned it off.
-
Now I'm getting the message with a "-8" this time. It also seems to fix itself between sorties without the need to relog. I recieved the message twice last night while flying a ki61 for about <20 sorties.
-
I still continue to get this error message and my shadow disappears.
I think this is a BUG.
Usually happens in a KI61, but I know I can switch to a few other planes and the message will not appear. I can then .ef and choose the ki61 again, launch and immediately get the message again.
The error always occurs immediately once you spawn on the runway and never during flight.
-
The error occurs because your video card/driver reports it does not support the surface support required in order for the shadow feature to work.
A DXDIAG output would be helpful.
As to why it would work sometimes, it could be a resource issue or a conflict with something else in the driver/video card is conflicting with the surface.
The game is just reporting what the video card driver gives us.

Thanks Skuzzy.

There is one other way to get that error. If you set the shadow pixel mask size too large.

how do i know when i have set it to large for my video card
-
Your video card runs out of memory, you get the above error, textures take a very long time to load. Take your pick.

:aok now thats un-geekified lol
-
After setting the shadow size from 4kx4k down to 2kx2k, the error and it's error message no longer occurs.
(If I set the shadow size up to 4k again, I'll get the error frequently.)
TY.
-
At 4Kx4K the texture would occupy 128MB of video RAM.
