Ultimate gamers toy? Looks like something one could build for less than 1400.

Here is the half of it

Interesting, but I'm not sure how it would work for AH.

For racing games, sure, the important stuff is all in the center of the screen.
Whats in the corners is really not important.

Same is not true for AH though.

I'm sure seeing the center of the screen is a matter of arrangement, the dome can sit 'under the floor'. For immersion the peripheral vision is immensely important. Imagine the sense of motion and speed.

Domed screens have always messed with me giving me headaches. This would not be something I would invest in.

Not for me, when they give me a screen that looks forward and back at the same time, I'm in.

I use TrackIR.  This may not be ready yet but I see this as the way of the furture.  I would like to see this at the convention.

I don't see this replacing track IR. I would be looking for it being an enhancement. Hate to spend any money on it before seeing it work though.

I understand your point - I just want to mention that you cannot get a real sense of how the screen works by watching a video.

I don't have one either, but it was immediately obvious to me from watching the posted youtube video that the very fact it is recorded and then reprojected onto a flat monitor distorted the visual feel you are supposed to get from such a system. I would have to try one in real life to be able to judge its suitability for AH.

Note: the roughly spherical-flat projection distortion is why we have IMAX and dome screens in the first place; it's supposed to "look more real" because such domes are closer to how we actually perceive the world than a flat screen is. I'm not an expert, so correct me if I'm wrong on this point.

I still don't think I'd like it. I actually flew a simulator in Virginia utilizing a dome-projection system. Even though it was small, it still messed with me (didn't look good either).

It may have messed with you exactly because it was small.

Yet somehow IMAX also messes with me?

Looks crap, simply because you don't sit 'in it', so it's just a curved screen in front of you.

For the cost you could get a reasonable VR headset (with tracking).
