Title: YAK-9T
Post by: 68Wooley on September 01, 2009, 12:40:08 PM
Flew the Yak-9T the other night during a brief ENY spike. Gotta say - its a bit of a perk farmer. That cannon is a beast air-to-air. The ballistics are much, much better than the German tator - pretty similar to most 20mm I found, and the effects are devastating. 32 rounds may not seem like much, but I was running out of fuel before running out of ammo.

The plane itself is nothing great but nothing terrible either - keep below 15k, fly smart and its perfectly capable. I think I have a new favorite ride.

Those things loop so very well! My first encounter with one was where it was diving and I was chasing it in an f4U-1D. The rascal was 3.5k out. It looped so very fast and ho'd me before I knew what was happening.  :rofl :rofl

I find the yak9u more efficient to make perks, its eny is 20 against 25 for the 9t. That tater is fun tho  :)

Don't dive too fast, otherwise you will find your roll rate nonexistent.

Some people may frown on this, but the YAK-9T is a vulching machine. Just one round from the cannon can tear any plane apart on the ground, and the best part is, you don't even have to hit the plane, just near it. It is also very good at deacking, with the same effects as vulching. Keep it fast and you can fly right through the ack and get your vulches, and then run home.
