Ok this is a wide topic but if we try to keep it simple, how big were the typical Fleet CV carrier air wings of WW2? What was their composition, were there any dedicated recon planes for example? What was the fighter/bomber ratio? How did this change over the course of the war for the IJN and USN?
Just need some simple numbers and don't have the time to dig through sources on the net. I'm sure there are experts on this topic within the community, thanks! :)

Definitely depends on the type of carrier, and the time period.
Essex-classes initially carried 36 fighters, 36 dive bombers, and 18 torpedo bombers. By the end of the war they replaced half the dive bombers with additional fighters.
