I just got some nice speakers for a 5.1 set up. I have them running through a creative X-FI extreme audio card and then into the direct input for 6 channel on the receiver. Can't get the card/computer and receiver to sync so that the sound test reports to the correct speakers. Any thoughts?
And before sombody says it. Yes, the cords are plugged into the right channel being selected and they are also plugged into the correct slot I.E. left front etc...

let me add some more detail. I have finally got sound through all speakers. The weird thing is that my left and right / front and rear are plugged into the tape channel and the sub and center are plugged into the 6 channel still. Two different channels on the receiver and they all work.........?

Uh tape channel? You aren't plugging inputs to regular RCA inputs are you? You should either use digital out if your receiver supports it or plug the x-fi to your decoder bypass inputs (if your receiver happens to have them). Do you mean 6 channel as in 6 bypass inputs that lead to 6 amplifiers in your receiver?

direct six channel means left, right, front and rear, center and sub. So in theory 3 outs on back of card equates to 6 channels (2 per micro jack into the card / 1 per RCA into the receiver) ( 1 micro split to two rca) each serving a speaker. That input is supposed to be on its own channel. Meaning press 6 channel and then all speakers work when selected. They dont. only left front and right front work. So I tried moving it to the only other channel that had 4 RCA to try and get 4.1 (TAPE) and left the sub and center in 6 channel thinking that they would not work when tape is selected and.....everything works. Is the receiver toast?

Very hard to say as there are so many different ways HT amps can be. Some amps have the capability to bypass the native decoder to all channels. Some amps only support decoder bypass so that it essentially works as a pre-amp and nothing else.
Usually HT amps above 1000 dollar pricerange have the ability to separate all amplifiers from the decoder and cheaper models have limited or no option to bypass the internal decoder.

Make sure in Windows you have your speakers set up for 5.1 sound and then in the Creative sound controller applet, have the sound syncronized to the Windows speaker set up. If the speaker configuration in Windows and in the Creative sound controller applet have to be the same.

yup clicked the sync with control panel and rechecked it. all on 5.1. This is as screwed up as a football bat :D
The first day I would do the sound test and could flip it between 4.1 and 5.1. 4 worked on 4.1 and 4 of the 6 worked when I switched to 5.1 because I needed to have a third cable for center and sub. Now its only the two front that work when I do the sound test for either. When I plugged in the third cable for center and sub the rear left and center speaker switched places in the sound test and I didn't even move the cords. Dambest thing I ever heard.

In the Creative Sound applet, make sure that you have it set to 'Game Mode' and then click on the default button to restore the default settings. Next, in the speaker selection, select 5.1 and then run the sound test and see if the problem still occurs (I'm sure you've already done this step a million times, so ignore it if you have).
What kind of speakers to you have and are you using the beta version of the Creative Sound control applet?

Disregard. I was connecting everything while upside down under my computer. Soundcard jack was hooked up in reverse and 2 channels were in the mic jack :rolleyes: All is fixed :rock
