This is gonna sound dumb, but the insignias on the 109G2 do look like swastika's no? I'm thinking its the insignia for Finnland. Their (well it used to be, look at photos of Brewster Buffalos used during the Russo-Finnish War) insignia used on their airplanes look liked bass-ackwards swastika's. Please can anyone shed some light on the situation or correct me if I'm wrong. It might have been the Netherlands insignia too, I'm just not too sure....

It's Finnish markings (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I've also heard that Goring had a part in making the Swastika the Nazi symbol, because he was a good friend of the man who started the Finnish Airforce with a donation of some sort, and that blue Swastika was part of his family seal (thus it became the standard insignia of the FA) course that's just hearsay from what I understand.

That swastika was Swedish count Von Rosens insignia.
Von Rosen gived first plane to Finnish Air force, Thulin D 1918 (Morane Parasol).

Replica of Thulin Parasol and some info:

Well, I believe it's a fact that Goering was indeed a frequent guest at the Von Rosen estate when he flew passengers between Germany and Sweden between the wars. There's also a highly unconfirmed story about a crush on Von Rosens' daughter, but let's not get into that (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) .

I read that it was an ancient religious symbol. In german folklore, the swastika was the object that stirred up the primordeal ooze during the creation of the earth (at least thats how I think I remember reading it.) I do believe that a Native American army unit of world war 2 also had a gold swastika as their unit symbol(not for the same reasons obviously) and they had to change it before they went to war.
