Title: Odd issue, havent seen another post about it.
Post by: Gaidin on September 05, 2009, 05:49:11 PM
After a few minutes of running AH, the tiles that are the bases, towns, strats, etc.  begin flashing.  Looks like they are flashing from green(forest) to white(winter/snow) and back.  This happens when the ack is firing and without.  This also causes sound stutters and screen stutters if I get close to a base while maneuvering.  Anybody else seen this problem, or have any idea how to fix it?

This machine is

Vista HP, 32bit
3gig ram
Core2Duo 2.2G CPU
Nvidia 7600GS vid card with 512MB vid ram

submit in dxdiag if you can ! Wild guess : Video card driver, or video card overheating/dieing.

Don't know that this will help, I have been over it more times than i can count.  Maybe you will see something I don't.  I didnt post the entire thing, if you want it let me know, i will post the rest.

I use the 6.14 drivers on my video card.  I have no idea if thats the problem I just noticed you were using 7.15.

What resolution do you run the game in? You're symptoms as described sound like the video card is heating up under the stress and or the processor is going bad, but it could just be something as simple as over driving the video card with the game.

Is this the resolution you're running the game at?
Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz)

If so try stepping it down and adjust your in game graphics detail settings. If you're running it with detailed water and shadows on, try turning them off.

Thanks gyrene81.  Only thing I hadnt tried was changing resolution I run game at.  I had swapped drivers and adjusted all the graphics settings.  Changing resolution down some seems to have done the trick.

Nope changing resolution didnt work.  It just took a little longer to happen.  Its hard to say what the problem is.  I don't think the card is malfunctioning or overheating because none of my other games have any issues.  This issue only started after this last patch.  I am stumped.

not all video cards run their best with the updated drivers try deleting the current driver and going back to the 6.14

I have already tried going back to 6.14 drivers with no change.  So, I went back to 7.15.

I want to restate, this was not an issue until the last patch.

if you would go into the game and go to graphic detail then advance and turn all that stuff off and see if that fixes it. then let me know. i had a problem with some of that stuff and i simply turned it off till i found out what the problem was

Unchecking detailed terrain makes it stop, but that really takes away from the look of the game.  I can run everything else full up and maintain 55-60fps when i turn on detailed terrain I take about a 5fps hit, and the flashing starts.  When I turn it off, goes back to 55-60fps and the flashing stops.

What puzzles me is this was not an issue until the last patch.  So it seems to me something to do with the patch, but I don't know all the changes made in that patch, so I have no idea what it would be.

Any thoughts from Skuzzy? Pyro? HT?  Would love to be able to turn detail terrain back on.

Actually I was surprised that video card could keep up with the "Detailed Terrain" option when anything else was in the area.  My 7600GT, which is a faster card, does fine when there is nothing else around.

Once I get it into traffic, it stutters quite a bit.  I just run it without "Detailed Terrain" option.

I don't seem to have any problems with stuttering even when detailed terrain is on, not during fights or close to the ground, unless I am near one of the base/strat/town tiles and the blinking.  The stutters aren't even really bad.  I can still do base defense etc.  Its just the eye wrenching base flash that gets me.   Although I will admit, it makes bases easier to see at a distance!

I would really like it to stop though, and as stated before, it only started after this last patch.  It did not occur before that.
