Everyone at Hitech Creations. I’ve been playing since AOL Fighter Ops then Warbirbirds Fighter Ops and lastly renting space here in Aces High since January 2002. Guys, it’s been such a fun hobby you created. I’ve had a lot of laughs with team players and especially squadies. Enjoyed just about every aspect of the game and none more so than the strategic side but I must really be moving on now. Thanks for the game, the fun and the friendships. I hope I haven’t made too much of an “avocado” of myself. I wish you every success with expansion and further plane and game developments in the future. It’s been a blast …thank you all. :salute
(http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc288/lynx-AH/perkies.jpg)
With the fighter perkies I would like the 650-watt microwave in electric blue (black if those are out of stock). With the bomber perkies I would like the “Genuine” Stainless Steal 24 piece cutlery set in the simulated walnut veneer, velvet lined case. With the Vehicle perkies I know I’ll forfeit the remaining 2,000 vehicles perks but for old time sake I’d like a 2002 Aces High logo’ed T-shirt and matching baseball cap. :D
Friends
After 10 years of sim games, mostly here in AH, there’s just to many to mention individually. The guys from the League of Gentlemen, The 367th Dynamite Gang, The S.O.B’s (Sons of Bishes), The Blind Bats and lastly many rooks and other assorted players. Without you guys this game wouldn’t have been anywhere near the fun I’ve I had. I thank you for your kindred spirits, your team play and the bloody goods cracks we’ve pulled off. A big <S> to each and every one especially Lobo3. :aok :salute
Foes
There are two types of foes all of which have generously contributed to my perk bank above. Without the guys that learn this game. The ones that get into a fight without Ho’ing on the merge. The ones that stay in the fight until the bitter end. The ones that didn’t scweem on 200. Without these guys this game would have got old years ago. Win or loose these tenacious battles have kept me coming back for more. . I salute you and thank you for the fun. :salute
Then there’s, to use a horse racing term, the “also ran”. You know the types. The victims on 200. The paranoid. The accusers. The gamers. The phrase “how did he do that” is lost on these fellows. Take my advice and bank those perks. You might get a toaster from their scalps. :D
The reason
I’ve contemplated leaving for the last three months. I was going to leave at the end of tour 114 as number 1 over all. That’s why I went for it but HTC, the crafty so an so’s, released the updates just before the end of that tour. I suckered myself into staying a month longer than I should have.
I’m not leaving because my computer can’t take the upgrade. It’s not because there’s a small fault somewhere that screws around with my stick sensitivity from plane to plane or Gv to plane. It boils down to a combination of things. As the world draws ever closer to a new paradigm I find myself moving into another 15 year phase of my life. Don’t ask me why there’s a 15-year phase. There just is, This is hard to explain other than to say in my best hippy voice “you gotta be mellow with this stuff man”. Then there’s my illness. It’s dogged me for over three years now. It nearly made my wife, who I love so preciously, a widow back in January. It was heart braking watching her tears and it’s been very humbling to see her working steadfastly as the sole breadwinner. Our savings and all state benefits expired 2 years ago. Our financial state is dire. Talk about “above and beyond the call of duty”. Some other wives would have been long gone by now. Thankfully, Sunday 6th September I go into hospital to have and, this will tickle you, a Hartmann reversal. It’s an operation I need to resume a normal life. It’s going to be a bit of a tough one because of all the adhesions I have. Then there’s a 3 to 6 month recuperation period before I can do any manual work. Read that as start looking for a job.
As this new phase of my life begins I feel very positive. I have no clue to where it will lead but I know from within it’s going to be “groovy”. I want to concentrate on bringing my lovely wife some pleasantries.
I maybe back in the future but never again through the schools vacation. I’ll be hanging around these boards for a time when I get home in a couple of weeks.
As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more melancholy. I found these some time ago and thought them apt for my parting, especially the last 30 seconds of the last one. Please don’t read into this anymore than it is. Just some music.

:salute LYNX. It was almost a pleasure being your foe :O and definately a pleasure flying with you as a Rook these last couple of months. For the last 4 years that I have played the game, you have been one of the GENTLEMEN of the game. Do take care of your health as it is the most important thing in life. Hold on tight to the misses as she is one in a million. Good luck in life sir and I hope that you find your way back to the game as you can on your own terms. You will be missed. :salute :rock :salute

Lynx, I was starting to enjoy your company towards the end of your tenure in AH. I felt you started viewing AH in a different light and I see I was right, although in this case I am unhappy I was correct.
Stop in and let us know how you are doing, and I hope to see you in AH again in the future. :)

Lynx,
Not even sure I know what to say. :( In the past three and half years I have played AH, I have been your foe and friendly. Its truly been an honor to serve with you and against you. A formidable opponent.
I wish you well mate, may your future adventures be filled with clear skies and good health. :salute
-
is that lindsey lohan squeezing her boobs together?
I'd hit it :O
take care LYNX <S>
-
:salute sir,
have a good rest of your life.
-
LYNX,
Only want to say one thing. If you ever want to come back and just enjoy some cartoon flyin' there is no shame in doing so. Many folks quit on a bad note and I am afraid that there is an element of pride that prevents them from returning b/c of what others may say. I think that I speak for the majority in saying that this is certainly not the case here. Just come back and enjoy for a bit and then fade away again when you want. We all will certainly miss you being online and enjoy when you are back. You have done all things well, inlcuding your departure.

Wow! It wont be the same without you mate.
I wish I didnt have to read this but I understand. Those months with the BBs were all good and of course my leaving had nothing to do with anything.
Wishya all the best Lynx. When life allows you to return we'll be here. :salute

:salute LYNX
I wish you all the best for the operation. Rooks are a lesser team without it's REAR Admiral and who is going to be nice and patient with the noobies? I fear they will only get the Alt + F4 treatment from here on in.
By all means keep us updated.
I'm not listening to "we'll meet again" that one always makes me :cry

Just get well not much else matters when you don't have your health.

Just a thought... we should set up a help fund for Lynx.
Paypal donations or something?
Are any of the UK boys able to set something up locally?
If anyone has set up this sort of thing before.... this seems like a good time to sling a few bucks to a comrade in need.
-
:salute . If at times this game allows us to escape , then for me it has done it requirements Best of Luck SIR.... :salute

Sad to see you go Lynx. You're one of the classiest players I've met in the genre and the community is the poorer for your leaving. Best of good luck with your surgery and all things in your future.

Blue skies and happy landings, Lynx. :salute
-
damn dude, AH is less now...
you are by far the name I loved to see come across the kill message the most,
know why? long time ago early 04, if my memory serves me correct, i upped to find a lone con at the fringes of our field so I attack, lol, you killed me 6 times in a row, I think you felt so bad for me you left the area :rofl
since that time I can only remember killing ya a few times, ( each time it was making up for those 6),
never have I seen you be a tard in all that time, or act in a tardlett way ( which is so prevalent now a days)
you have showed Honor (when many say that is not possible in a internet game )
you will be missed.
wish you all the best bro take care of your self.
and that wife of your :salute
-
Hang in there Lynx, I'll miss getting blown up by you also. :salute
Best of luck to you and the wif.
From the Journal of Minimal Access Surgery:
Despite the potential low postoperative morbidity and mortality, a short hospital stay, a reduced postoperative pain and an accelerated convalescence, this procedure is technically challenging and should therefore be reserved to experienced minimally invasive surgeons. Reason for that is a relatively long operating time as well as a significant higher conversion and intraoperative complication rate.
I always hate the "Technically Challenging" moniker on things....
-
<S> Lynx, loved working with you with CV ops. You will be missed!
-
Best luck in the future - hope the operation goes well sir. :salute
-
<S> Lynx, best of luck to you sir, and hope to see you again sometime!

LYNX, Sir, you are an Honorable Gentleman and a player to emulate.
If there is anything I, or my Family can do to help you and your Family, please let me know.
This is a very old saying, but one that I feel is appropriate: "In the Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed man is King".
<S> LYNX of "The Blind Bats".
-
this means my chances of living during a whole sortie while ur on has doubles!! woot woot!
jk lynx! its been an honor to fly with u and against u....ur alot of fun and hope that everything works out ok for you and your wifey. if you ever get the itch to come back and join us let me know and i will be happy to give u ur first fight on your return!! tc lynx :salute

You greedy tosser!
Those priceless prizes are reserved for posthumous lifetime achievement.
I look forward to once again typing in GREEN ROOK TEXT: "wtg lynx"
(LYNX once explained to me the definition of "tosser".)

Funny I've been feeling the same way lately...maybe it is the 15 year itch...mostly its the fact that my oldest is a high schooler now and I'm jealous of any time that takes me away from her and the rest of my kids....time moves quickly.
Best of luck and <S>

I think you will be missed here more than you may know. You have always epitomized, to me, what the game here should be about.
More important though is what is ahead for you healthwise. For that you have my prayers.
I hope you will let us know how you are doing in the future, even if you choose not to come back to the game.
Best of luck to you!

Lynx,
I've been shot down by you many times. While I'm sad to hear you're leaving before I had a chance to get you at least once, my selfishness is tempered by empathy I feel for your personal struggle. Funny, how you didn't make it sound like a struggle.
I'll say a prayer for you and the wife and family that love you, that the work of God be done through those that will care for you, for you and those who love you.
Good luck and God speed.

I'm with the other guys Lynx that wish you well and will say a prayer for you and your family.
I always knew when we were at the same base defending that the outcome was greatly in our favor. You will be missed as you had a huge knowledge of what needed to be done, where it needed to be done. I always enjoyed listening to you explain your reasoning for your actions or what others needed to do.
Besides all that, gonna miss your accent. :O :rofl

Sad to see you go, LYNX. Best wishes and hope you eventually make the journey back into mauling the bishnits with CVs. :)

Thanks for the "schoolin'".

Ello Guys
Firstly I find myself very humbled by the replies to this post. For me it was very touching to receive all the well wishes and positive posts to my leaving the game. Many of the replies are buy guys I know and some are by guys I barley recognise.
A chap by the name of aamack with just 1 post to his credit said

I think you will be missed here more than you may know
He's dead right. To me I was just another geeky WWII wanna be. A 47 year old going on 12 (according to my Mrs we're all 9 year olds). OK! I understand I was a player with some experience of the game but 11 pages of good wishes makes the point for aamack, to which I was somewhat taken aback. I must stress I am very greatfull and humbled to the point of having a lump in me throat. I can't thank you enough for your good thoughts other than to express a heart felt :salute
I started this thread on the day I went to hospital Sunday 6th. My operation was scheduled for Tuesday 8th of September at the University Hospital Walsgrave in Coventry, my home town. Having checked in at reception I was meeted and greeted at my designated ward and lead to a 4 bedder side room. I noted I was the youngest. One of the beds had a curtain around it and didn't pay much attention until some nurses and porters came in and drew everyones curtains. Requesting patients and visitors to remain behind our curtains. This is polite hospital etiquette for removing a dead guy off the ward. The guy behind the original closed curtains. Charming omen I thought and the last thing I wanted Karen to see.
On the 8th at 5PM I was wheeled down to theater to be parked up in the waiting area. After 3/4 of an hour a guy in theater blues comes up to me and says "the guy before me has complications and they may not finish with me until gone 11PM. Would I mind if they canceled?" The last thing I wanted was my surgeon falling asleep at the scalpel. Bearing in mind I had seen him at 9AM for a pre op check and chat. Although slightly disappointed who was I to deny the guy before me. Who was I to kick off about it. The theater guy then goes on to tell me they would do me later in the week or the weekend. This was somewhat of a relief as I was thinking they wouldn't get back to me until January or February of 2010. I most defiantly didn't want a knackered surgeon working on me after a 14 or 15 hour day. I was put back on the ward where I spent a few days swapping ailments, life stories and thoughts on death with the other patients. Two of the guys were terminal  I've been dead for 30 seconds when I was 12 but thats perhaps another thread for the officers club.
On Saturday 12th September I was in theater at 9AM prompt. The op had gone to plan and lasted close on 5 hours. Apart from the odd hour here and there I slept for 4 days straight. It's fair to say I didn't feel my best with all the tubes, vomiting, shoulder pain and bloody hiccups. Apparently hiccups is a common thing after the diaphragm has been moved about following abdominal surgery. Also, shoulder point pain is common because they sometimes tweak a nerve whose name I can't recall. Man! it felt like some bad arsed viking had buried his axe in me collar bone. Like I'd broken it again.
In the middle of the week over a two day period I had all the pipes and tubes taken out of me. One of the funny moments I'll relay to you, with a cheeky proud smile . It came to having my catheter tube taken out me knob. It's an embarrassing thing to have to go through. It's a strange sensation and it can be painfull as this plastic tube gets pulled out. You can feel it unfurling itself from ya sacks all the way up the one eyed tube. So there I am with me dressing gown tucked under me chin and me meat and two veg on display to this nurse. Good job my teenage years are long gone and the nurse was an old timer close on retiring. Having deflated the balloon that keeps it in place she grips the tube, looks me in the eyes and says "ready?" I grip the base of me flaccid member and give her the nod. Up comes her hand pulling the tube out as she does so. I felt the tube coming out me sacks and up me knob then she stops. She's still looking at me and I at her. I have to tell her to "keep going". Astonished she looks at me knob and pulls out the last couple or three inches of tube.
A proud moment :rock :aok :rofl
On Friday 18th my surgeon comes up to me and tells me all seems well and would I like to go home? I was like WTF  I know they need the beds but this was taking the piss. I said "no" in a polite but serious manner. I had to remind him of my slow heart beat. Been MRI'ed at 43 beats per minute but it's usually around 53. If I'm over 70 beats per minute I'm stressing. The surgeon goes OK. We'll discharge you Sunday with some meds to take home. That's 1 week and a day after surgery.
So...here I am chaps. I spent all of last week at home cabaged on some pretty poky drugs. I find myself in minimal pain but very tired. I fall asleep at odd moments. I find it uncomfortable to sit in a chair preferring to be reclined or laying down. I've had to leave writting this a couple of times because of sitting at the PC :frown: I see my practice nurse every other day to have a dressing changed over a hole in me belly where me artificial arse used to be. I have a minor problem which should resolve itself in time. As for my arse...the real one. It doesn't quite know what to do. It can't make it's mind up weather to fart, dump or turn itself inside out. Man! when that happens its a tad painfull and really feels like it's trying to dump my insides out. :lol
As for the short term future I'm looking forward to e-baying and promoting a photo manipulation website. The wife is getting very good at that. I'm also going to have a go at writting. This is quite funny really because I'm lycdexis :lol but I think I can do it. Even if I don't get anywhere I want to give it a shot. It will be time consuming on all 3 fronts. As for the long term I'm hoping to get back in the job market early to middle of next year. :aok I'm afraid playing Aces High doesn't fit in any equation just yet but I'm not saying never....maybe this time next year....who knows.
Anyways! gone on long enough. I'll be about the boards from time to time and once again ...thank you all and especially me old squaddies for the "behind the scenes support" :salute

I've stood guard at the window looking for the postman every morning and all the bleeders done is bring me more bills. I can't wait for the stuff to arrive because the cutlery set will be an early Christmas present for the wife and the 650watt microwave will see her tickled pink on Christmas's day. :x I'm going to frame the T-shirt and cap :lol

Lynx, good to hear from you. Also very happy that all, so far, has seemed to go well. Please keep us posted.

Welcome back my British sea pirate! Since you've been gone, all the rook CVs have run aground or floating upside down. Now get to the bridge and steer them into the wind. We got fightin' to do man!!!!

Hello LYNX.

Don't know if I've ever had the pleasure of getting a fight with you, but I do remember seeing the LYNX id in game.
Best wishes for a fast recovery, and for your return ingame so I also may have the pleasure of getting a fight or two with you! ;)
Take it easy and get well soon, then maybe you feel up to do a sortie every now and then in the near future. :aok :salute

Hey lads thanks for thinking of me. As you can see I haunt the boards daily. Keeping in touch with developments, friends and squaddies. That new City looks great but it was a pity about Rodders. It's things like the frailty of life that put things into perspective. Glad he got a decent send off.
I'm getting alot better now. Spent most of September being very sleepy from drugs and couldn't sit up right for more than 10 min without feeling discomfort. I only get the odd tweak now and then just as a reminder. Should be fit for work by December but I'm already looking for work as of this week. Applied for Print Operaters job only a mile away from my home...it's address is Spitfire close....omen perhaps :rock Also applied for a recovery drivers job. Anything will do to get me back in the job market. Have bills and debts of honour to clear. Yer lads! I'm feeling very positive for the future...back to normality without the pain, without burdening my wife and getting money matters resolved once I'm earning again.
I bought a PC 11 years ago to help with my desire to write but I got distracted by flight sims and you know the rest :D So!.... I've been writing. I posted one such true life story in a BBC competition. Here's the link to the synopsis and short story. Critic welcome...good an bad.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mystory/stories/tragedy/150177/
I have an urge to persue my writing....as a dyslexic I have something to prove to myself. If only to metaphorically stick the finger to my former teachers...who are probably dead by now.
As for AH I don't see me returning in the near future but then again I don't see me never returning. Maybe later next year. PC probelms, writing, quality time with me Mrs (she's been a real gem over the last 4 years) and just general everyday living. They all need to be caught up with.
Anyways lads ...thanks for thinking of me... it's very appreciated. I'll be on the boards from time to time.

Good Story Lynx well told. The ending left me wanting to know more. Good writing will do that and make one think. :aok

Also been MIA from boards, didnt see this either till today.
Lynx, nothing but the best for you. Was always a pleasure to run in to you, "good guys" or bad...and always a worthy opponent when things went that way. Hope your body heals up faster than its supposed to for us not-quite-50 guys!
Know what you're saying about "not now but not never." I've been away for almost a year myself, and here I am checking the AH boards now and again. Never know when the urge might come back, and if it does for the both of us I'll look forward to seeing you again!
Dave "Simaril"
PS Congratulations on the catheter success!

Just an update
I am taking my first step in gainfull employment tomorrow for the first time since 2007. I consider myself fit for certain types of work so I registered at an employment agency and they got me a weeks work as a machine operator. Funny thing is I used to do this in the 80's for more money back then lol.
Oh well! ...its work and I need work experience to get back into the market. There's not a lot available for the underskilled and under educated in dear old blighty :lol When I'm voted Prime Minister of the UK I'll ban agencies so's we can get real jobs :old:
Some of you may know I've taken up writing a bit. Here's a link to another story if anyones intersted.
