Title: P-47d-30/40 camouflage search
Post by: Dustoff2 on September 08, 2009, 11:40:05 AM
Ok, this has been a 4 month, 5 books search for another camouflaged d40. I still have not come up with a camo d-40. But I've found a d-30. I know there are other d-30 skins on the d-40 in AH, so I believe their has been a precedent set.(The other d-30's didn't have the spine fillets either.) I believe from sources, The D-30's were the first batch to be factory fitted with a spine fillet, but not all of them were.  Based on the following, do you think I have enough evidence to procede with the skin request?

Any D-30 skin should be placed on a D-25 model.  The presence of a dorsal fillet is not, IMO, more important than the higher performance of the D-40 with the later engine.  For almost all of the characteristics we care about in-game, a D-25 = D-30.

Now, if we have D-40 skins that are D-30s, I'd take exception.  That being said, ultimately, its HTC's call, so contact them and see what they say.

We do have d-40 skins that are d-30's.

the 354thFG/353rdFS by Fencer51 is a d-30. Also, the 404FG/506thFS by Fencer51 (Sigma Nu Girl) is a D-28 according to my production SN#.

I figure since a precedent has been set by these two, it would be allowed.

heck, even the default chow hound is a d-30

edit:  Just noticed this now , everyone one of the d-40 skins are d-30's according to the production serial  numbers listed in the link above.

And Sigma Nu Girl had a fillet.  So they are both D40s, posted and accepted.

well in the real world, adding a fillet doesn't make it a d40. (unless you can provide documentation)

but I guess in a cartoon world, it does. I will drop the subject and look for d28/d30's with a fillet.

One of the Brazillian Jugs attached to the 350th FG in the MTO.  Appears to have the fillet.

Anyone ever asked about skinning the camo 56th P47Ms on the D40 since they'd look similar?

Let's not even go down the P-47M road Guppy. We don't want to stir up the natives anymore. ;)

Not asking for a P47M :)

Just suggesting asking HTC if those camo schemes can be used on D-40s.

We have P38F and H camo skinned on 38Gs because there is no plan to add those birds to the P38 line up.  As they are identical externally it opened the door for spreading the paint schemes to cover some other birds.

Kev367th got the OK to skin a Spitfire VII onto the VIII as they are externally almost identical and there is no plan to add the Spit VII.

The worst that could happen is HTC says no.  If not, some of those 47M camo schemes are very nice.

anyone have a template for the D40 willing to share. I will understand if you don't want to. I just want to get a jump start on this. I'm in the process of figuring out how to do the panel lines, rivets ect. now. But I fear this will be a long learning process due to spare time.

I'd love a 56th FG 47M skin.
