Title: Uh.. not sure how to describe this.. Attack of the Giant G Meter? Yeah..
Post by: Fencer51 on September 09, 2009, 08:26:36 PM
Ok, this first happened on Friday night on the Ardennes terrain in FSO..

It turned my prop into a compass, wipe out the vox ident on the upper right making un readable, took out the ord readings, and completely took down the map and interface..

I am not sure what caused it.  Gavagai, who took over lead, said his film screwed up at the same time..

And then it happened again tonight.. in a P-51D.  The game.. hung for a second when I was looking at my 10oclk.. then when it came back live the world had went wacky.

:O :lol Holy crap Fencer!  I bet it's a driver issue but I'm sure someone who really knows will chime in soon.  I think there was a thread like this a week or two ago, but I don't know what to tell you to run a search for.

Looks similar to the problem they addressed in Patch 6...... fixed a problem that caused clipboard textures to apply to other objects

Im sure since theyve already encountered a similar bug it will be an easy fix for em

The second time it happened, were you in the same terrain?

Almost identical to what happened to me yesterday screen froze up then the lower two thirds of the screen turned black top third flickered then normally I would have to reboot everything. This time the game came back on line by it's self however it looked a lot like what you have on your screen shots.

I started recording it & took screen shots as well the smoke on the v-base appeared as code while I was playing & yet when I reviewed tape it looked 100% fine? Most of the screen shots also looked OK except for a couple.

I also had similar issue some months back & it was a bad graphics card & updated them both & since the last patch this is happening several times a day now.

This happened on the Compello map at V-164 late war blue arena.Every thing is switched on for graphics shadow texture set to 4096 .

This seems to be a situation where drivers have been repeatedly updated without proper cleaning of previous drivers or of corrupted drivers through some other process or problem.

Well I believe this was on my end.  I think my drivers were corrupted and they just "went" last night.  I ended up updating with the newest Nvidia 9800 drivers (10/5) and things started working again.

That graphics card I had went boom 3 weeks ago.  So I assumed that this problem was part of the melt down on a year old PNY GeForce 9800 GTX+.

I replaced it with a GeForce 250 GTS NVidia.  Unfortunately, I was flying in the scenario today, looked left and someone keyed their mic.  The game hung, then when it came back 2 seconds later the sky was dark grey, the ground was white and the trees were still showing.  This was on the Rhine Summer terrain, using the converted file.. just like the converted file for Ardenne Summer.

Why would this happen to two different cards and two different sets of drivers?

Is your case getting enough air flow,is your case actually an oven? Possibly your PSU spiking?
