Title: next gen AMD GPU - 6 monitors on one card at full resolution
Post by: eagl on September 10, 2009, 08:30:18 PM
Please oh please ask AMD to send you guys some development hardware and any required SDK...  6 monitors at full resolution with full DX11 acceleration, on one card.  Put 4 cards in one system and you get 24 fully accelerated monitors.

This is just PERFECT for flightsims.  6 monitors is probably enough for a 1/3 dome with projectors, or a 180 deg horizontal view using 5 monitors and the 6th monitor sitting up above the center monitor for the all-important fwd-up view.  Go with 4 cards and you've easily got a full dome.  Yea it might be CPU limited but intel is quite busy working on that so no worries there.

Seems it is all handled transparently to the application, thus it should just work.

Yea, but...  Can AH handle 5 monitors across in a row plus one monitor sitting above the center monitor?  The viewable area would not be a rectangle.  Wouldn't the game need to know that it needs to render just the inverted "T"?

no eagl: It is still the same, just simply choose a Field of view you wish and resolution, nothing is different as far as AH is concerned it is sill just 1 big monitor.

Thanks for the reply HT.  That would look amazing...  I doubt it'll make it to market in time for the convention this year though.  The 3-monitor cards should be out soon but the 6 monitor cards won't be out until the end of the year.

Although...  multiple 3-monitor cards can be matched to make larger arrays...  That might be possible by the con date.  I wish I could attend this year but I don't think I can make it :(
