If you want an answer to the 900 click kill from an F4c, then you need to be driving a Jug. There's nothing better than unleashing 12.7 pounds of american lead at 1.2k in a HO and watch as the uber-hog dissentigrates at around 800 clicks.

Oh btw, that's 12.7 pounds per second.

So true man. That thing puts up a wall of lead. AH P-47D is the first sim Jug that reminds me of the descriptions in Robert Johnson's book. Especially when Frenchy is flying it!
-
Ahh...the Jug...my first true love. But quiet down about it. I don't want to see a sky filled with them. Let them others toy with the Chogs and Spits, 109s and Ponys...just let me have my Jug and as a little known WarBird pilot once said...

So when are you guys gonna start a P-47M campaign? It's as easy as a paintjob and engine change to the D-30... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

juzz, we already tried to make a case for our beloved M model.......but looks like the Luftwobble faction blockaded it, and likely our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Nice try Skurj. Go away with your girly plane. That thing barely has enough ammo to hurt my Jug. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) And that's Mr. Thunderbolt to you pal! Come play at 30K and we'll see who smacks who around.
Don't believe it eddiek.
I've heard Pyro mention the 47-M or N many times. It will be in AH at some time I'm sure, but likely as a perk.
BTW, I'd rather the N model myself. It should handle better although it won't be quite as blazing fast.
Also, I don't think we need to worry about too many folks flying the Jug. It doesn't turn or climb worth a damn, so it will be left to us hardcore Jug-Heads. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) To tell you the truth, I stopped flying it during the 1.03 days when it was too good and everybody was flying it. I like my Jug to be the rare underdog. I like to be that crazy man stall-fighting in this monster. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I flew the 30 almost exclusively last tour and fell in love with it. I tried going to a different ride at the beginning of this tour, but soon found myself back in the Jug. I never was very partial to one particular plane (other than the 38), but now I'd have to say I'm a devoted Jug Head. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
I like it's even response and handling in high speeds. Other planes get too sensitive.

I mostly fly the jug too. It's funny, it's a popular plane on this BBS but I rarely see one in the arena.

Well big DAHHHH...I killed them all (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

p38 is better (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

True, but can it carry a (false) loadout of 2 1,000lb bombs, a 500lb bomb, 10 5" HVARs and 3400 rounds of .50in ammo? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I judge a plane's betterness as to how scared I am of other planes. P38 is definately not on my scare list when I'm flying the jug. I can outzoom it and outdive it and outrun it.
There's only a few planes I am scared of when in my jug. They are the P51, 30mm equipped 109, Typhoon, and another Jug. All other planes I can either HO, outdive, or outrun.

The Fw 190A-8 has 44 kills and has been killed 31 times against the P-47-D30.
Interesting matchup, huh ?

Don't give pilots with lower wingloading a fair fight !
They wouldn't notice anyway.

You mean your not nervous of Hogs? A very similar plane with the same engine. The F4U can dive and run with a Jug. It retains E better, it turns better, and it has better low speed handling. If it's a C model you best not go for the HO either. If you are a crappy shot like me, this isn't an option anyway.
Typhoons don't bother me really. 109's are the scary planes for me, because they can out-climb me easy and the G10 is fast enough to catch me if I run. If I've got enough altitude I can out-dive it, but I've got to be able to hold 500 for a bit to do that. 190's can be dangerous until I figure out if it's the A5 or the A8.

Lepthurn, you saying that if it in an A8, it doesn't scare ya?
Pray it ain't flown by kirin, maik, Glunz or nathbdp.
kirin has 141 kills and has been killed 32 times in the Fw 190A-8
maik has 231 kills and has been killed 82 times in the Fw 190A-8
nathbdp has 160 kills and has been killed 34 times in the Fw 190A-8.
glunz has 11 kills and has been killed 1 time in the Fw 190A-8
These guys are creepy in the a8 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

At first the hog scared me but I soon learned how to beat it. HO's are no problem. I open up at around 1.1k and they usually dissintegrate around 600 clicks. I've rarely been killed in a HO by a chog. I've been disabled but they usually go down in flames.
A jug can outdive the hog. If a hog as alt on me then its scary, but its scary with any plane that has an alt advantage. Also the jug outzooms a hog.

Thank Funked, appreciated (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) BTW, do you recomand me this book Funked? Is it entertaining to read?

No Santa, I'm just saying that I need to figure out which FW it is before I can decide what my best move is. It doesn't really matter which one, just that I find out quickly. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) After that it will depend on my situation.
And yeah, I'd rather it be an A8. At least I can stallfight with the A8. <G>
Also, those guys are just good pilots. The plane doesn't matter so much, they'd be dangerous anyway.

Frenchy, Johnsons book he co-wrote with Caiden titled "Thunderbotl" is an "ok" read. Nothing to keep you on the edge of your seat readin. A bit too short and only enough combat stories to give you a taste of his war time experience. I was a bit dissapointed. I included my copy in a trade for a CH FFX stick otherwise I'd send it to you.
